Main duties of the job
Are you an experienced ophthalmologist with a specialisation in glaucoma looking for a new opportunity? We are seeking qualified candidates to join our team as a Specialist doctor (previously known as an Associate specialist).

Your Role:
As a Specialist doctor, you'll be responsible for managing complex glaucoma cases and performing independent cataract and glaucoma surgical procedures.

As a Glaucoma Associate Specialist at University Hospital Southampton's Eye Unit, here's what you'll do:
* Utilize your expertise in managing complex glaucoma cases independently, encompassing both medical and surgical interventions, to provide comprehensive care to patients.
* Demonstrate proficiency in performing independent cataract and glaucoma surgical procedures, ensuring excellent outcomes and prioritizing patient well-being.
* Foster a collaborative spirit within the team, effectively communicating with colleagues, sharing insights, and working towards common goals in our multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
* Contribute to the education and training of medical staff and trainees through teaching and mentorship, both within the department and at regional and local meetings.
* Stay updated with the latest advancements in glaucoma management and surgical techniques, proactively seeking opportunities for learning and professional development to ensure continuous improvement in patient care.

The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Specialist Doctors – England (2021). Salary will be assessed in line with terms and conditions.
Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview.

Person specification
Qualifications, training & experience
* Minimum of three years’ experience at SHO or higher level.
* GMC registration with a licence to practise.
* DRCOphth, MRCOphth, FRCOphth or equivalent.
* Experience of working in busy glaucoma clinics and eye casualty.
* Teaching experience.
* Glaucoma subspecialty interest and experience.
* Independent expertise in cataract surgery.
* Glaucoma Surgery experience.
* Exposure to surgery and surgical complications.
* Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
* GMC on the specialist register.
* Research experience.
Aptitudes and skills
