An opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Band 7 Unit Manager for Paediatric Critical Care Unit (Level 2). The Unit has 10 beds and admits children between the ages of 0-17 years with a variety of Acute and Chronic conditions.
* Children requiring respiratory support in the form of high flow nasal cannula oxygen, CPAP and BIPAP for either a short period of time or for children who require long term ventilation support.
* Acute management of complex abdominal or Orthopedic surgeries.
* Acute and Chronic medical management of DKA, Asthma, metabolic emergencies, sepsis, cardiac arrhythmias.
* Stabilisation and preparation of PICU Retrievals.
In this position, you will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, work with many different members of the MDT from a multitude of specialties, and be pivotal in influencing the delivery of care to a large number of children who are admitted to the area. You will be working with and supporting the South Thames Pediatric Network (STPN) to develop and support Level 2 Critical Care across the Network.
Extensive experience in acute paediatrics is essential in this role, as well as excellent communication skills, the ability to make decisions, be proactive and forward-thinking. Alongside this, being able to motivate and support staff is essential, as well as having the ability to adapt to changing priorities. You will be supported by our paediatric education team and paediatric matrons and other band seven.
Main duties of the job
The Ward Manager will be an integral member of the divisional management team supporting the division in the delivery of all key performance targets. They will be accountable for the provision of effective professional nursing leadership and proactive resource management for the clinical area of their responsibility. As an experienced practitioner, the post holder will be expected to focus on providing a clean environment for care, ensuring best practice in infection control, improving clinical care standards, and treating patients with dignity and respect within the defined resource allocated.

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Children's)
* Previous experience in acute paediatrics
* Teaching and assessing (mentorship) Qualification
* Previous band six in an acute children's area.
* Previous experience in ward management
* APLS
* Experience in paediatric critical care
