Job summary
UCLH, one of London's key cancer centres, is seeking to recruit a Clinical Trials Assistant on a 12-month fixed-term contract to support a growing number of cancer clinical trials. The successful candidate will be based within the Cancer Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU) located at 250 Euston Road.
The main role of the Clinical Trials Assistant is to support the CCTU team in the administration and running of in-house, national, and international phase I, II, and III clinical trials. Responsibilities include contacting patients by phone, assisting clinical trial practitioners and research nurses with the booking of patient appointments, creating and maintaining files for clinical trials, handling correspondence, and processing or handling blood and tumour tissue samples.
You will be part of a supportive and dynamic team, working closely with clinical research staff. The role is vital in supporting clinical research staff to deliver excellent care to patients with cancer. Full training will be provided, but the successful candidate will be expected to manage their own workload to achieve the goals set by the team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for:
1. Sending, collecting/storing questionnaires
2. Handling incoming mail and correspondence
3. Providing a high-quality personal assistant service to the team when needed
4. Attending clinics if/when requested by the Nurse/Coordinator
5. Retrieval/creation and maintenance of patient notes
6. Site File maintenance
7. Requesting/sending biological samples
8. Supporting data managers with relevant queries
9. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate filing systems - paper/IT
10. Assisting with surveys/audits as required
11. Having a high degree of interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with a wide range of personnel in the multidisciplinary team orally, in writing, or electronically in a professional and courteous manner
12. Being familiar with and confident in using the Trust IT systems
13. Taking minutes at departmental and tumour group meetings
14. Completing mandatory training & other recommended training
15. Prioritising workload, meeting deadlines, and tackling problems systematically and with initiative
16. Maintaining confidentiality of patient-related information at all times
17. Taking personal responsibility for ensuring that UCLH resources are used efficiently and with minimum wastage
18. Adhering to all Trust policies and procedures, the Health and Safety at Work Act, and the Data Protection Act
19. Monitoring and maintaining physical resources within the work area and reporting any related problems to line management
