Emergency Ambulance Crew - Specialist Contracts
We’re proud to partner with specialist transfer services across hospitals in London and the East of England to be the transport provider for CATS, PaNDR, NTS and ACCTS. We’re looking for passionate and dedicated Emergency Ambulance Crews to support these services. You’ll work alongside the clinical teams from the specialist services, to respond to, stabilise and transport critically unwell neonates, children and adults between Intensive Care Units across London, East of England and surrounding areas.
About the Role
St. John Ambulance are looking for passionate people, wanting to make a difference to join their team of Emergency Ambulance Crew’s providing specialist critical care transfer services for neonatal, paediatric, and adults across the East of England, London and beyond. You will be working closely with specialist transport clinicians from the PaNDR (Paediatric and Neonatal Decision Support and Retrieval Service), ACCTS (Adult Critical Care Transfer Service), CATS (Children’s Acute Transport Service) and NTS (Neonatal Transfer Service) teams. Using a fleet of modern bespoke C1 Ambulances you will be part of a team who deliver first class critical care transfer services to some of the most poorly patients, ensuring they receive the right care for their needs.
As an EAC, you will be responsible for ensuring your vehicle and clinical equipment are ready to respond to referrals, joining the clinical team for planning, co-ordination and review sessions. You’ll expertly handle transporting the clinical team to a referring hospital, be part of the team that helps to stabilise the patient and then safely deliver them to the receiving hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. You will be responsible for providing high quality, professional and compassionate care for patients and ensuring current clinical practice procedures and requirements are followed.
About you
To be considered for the role you must be educated to GCSE level and have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. You should have a minimum of 12 months driving experience and hold a full UK driving licence with a maximum of three penalty points. All applicants must have a C1 on their licence. Those working towards this would be required to have it by an agreed start date. You will be required to complete 10 weeks residential training to become qualified Emergency Ambulance Crew, as well as undertaking Level 3 CERAD ambulance response driver training. Candidates will need to have an enhanced full DBS check (which we provide) and complete a health check to ensure they are able to take up frontline work. This is a shift-based role in a team that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Shifts are 12 hours in duration and on a shift rotation basis, typically a 4 on, 4 off pattern. This is not a 9 to 5 role and will include rostered weekend, night and bank holiday working for which enhanced pay premiums are added.
