The University of Huddersfield’s Institute of Railway Research (IRR) provides specialist research and consultancy to UK and international clients. Our team consists of specialist railway engineers and researchers, many of whom have extensive industry or rail research experience. We work across all sectors of the industry from heavy to light rail and from infrastructure to vehicle engineering. Our work encompasses major research projects which shape the future of the industry at national or European level and sector specific research and development (R&D) or consultancy which helps our clients make strategic or tactical decisions.
We have an exciting opportunity to join our rail vehicle dynamics / wheel-rail interface engineering team as a Principal Industrial Fellow.
You will need to be an expert in this area with specialist knowledge in vehicle dynamic simulation and its applications, together with the ability to lead and deliver client and partner projects, working with a range of industry and academic stakeholders to solve key engineering challenges.
As a senior member of the IRR team, you will be comfortable leading a small team and should be able to evidence a substantial track record in securing funding, project leadership and delivery. You will have access to over £15m of advanced full-scale test facilities and will contribute to the development of our core skills in the field of vehicle-track system dynamics, wheel-rail interface engineering and asset management.
