The Accommodation Services Team at the University of Sunderland are an integral part of the University community, supporting students living in halls of residence. The team works to create a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for our residents. The role holder will play a vital part in delivering this positive student experience in partnership with colleagues from Student Support Services, Student's Union and Academic Staff.
About the role
We are currently recruiting for Residential Assistant's Summertime 25 for the period from June 2025 to September 2025 (Summer) based at Panns Bank, Scotia Quay and The Precinct.
The role of Residential Assistant (RA) are students who have experience of living in Halls themselves and will be living in halls between the period stated above, offering out of office hour's support and guidance to students living in the halls of residence.
The candidate will be trained to provide advice and support to students and to contribute to the smooth running of the student community. This includes organising social events and being involved in supporting the university sustainability campaigns. Their primary role is pastoral care, in providing the student with someone to talk to regarding a problem. The RSA's also signpost students on to other University support staff: health advisors, counselling, and financial support along with the Student Union range of services.
Other responsibilities include supporting fire safety, responding to emergencies and maintaining good order in the Halls. For example: observing, correcting, recording and reporting breaches in fire regulations, health and safety regulations, the accommodation code of practice and reporting of defect's/repairs.
