The UK Government has established UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS) Ltd., a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to lead the charge in delivering fusion energy through design and delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) prototype fusion plant. UKIFS is establishing itself, setting up the company, attracting talent, engaging with industry, developing a supply chain, and planning and constructing the STEP prototype.
Fusion energy, crucial for combating climate change and ensuring energy independence, is expected to be commercially viable by mid-century. This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.
The Role
As IP Coordinator, you will provide both technical and paralegal support and coordination services to the IP function. Responsibilities include:
* Providing paralegal services for UKIFS IP function including preparing official forms for UK, EP patent and design applications, and liaising with external IP law firms.
* Continuous improvement of all IP processes, including case management.
* Managing budget spreadsheets and providing IP forecasting.
* Managing the programme and project document management process.
* Monitoring a generic IP inbox and acting as a first point of contact for project and IP related queries.
* Supporting procurement activities and producing technical reports.
* Managing Technical Secretary duties for the Innovation Division.
* Providing Technical Coordinator support for ad-hoc tasks.
* Supporting planning and managing site visits from external visitors.
Qualifications
* Previous experience in an IP role, with general knowledge in all key areas.
* HNC/Apprentice or degree in a relevant subject area.
* Knowledge of patent systems and administration thereof.
* Demonstrable experience in IP case management and IP prosecution support.
* IT literate, fluent in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
* Excellent technical report writing skills.
* Excellent interpersonal, planning, and organisational skills.
* A self-starter with a strong motivation to achieve.
* Patent administrator qualification or progress toward.
* Paralegal qualification or demonstrable progress towards the qualification.
