An opportunity is present for a Senior Engineer (Process Safety & Hazardous Utilities) role in the Utilities and Facilities team; to provide a senior point of focus for the site’s Mechanical and Process Safety systems.
Reporting to the Lead Mechanical Engineer, the role holder will be responsible for supporting the quality adherence, safety, compliance and operations of Mechanical & Process Safety systems campus wide. These systems are aligned to Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Research and Development and Laboratory facilities.
We are looking for an engineer with a strong technical underpinning in mechanical systems, hazardous utilities (I.e. Boilers, PSSR Assets) and Process Safety. The role exists to deliver professional engineering expertise as a senior point of contact to ensure the demonstrated design, installation and management of asset performance is maintained and consistently improved during the operational life cycle of the Ware Campus. The role requires application of specialist knowledge to act as the technical authority and subject matter expert for changes to safety systems, maintenance life plans and performance improvements for utilities and facilities across the campus.
Key Accountabilities (include):
* A senior engineer with the skills and knowledge required to support the Lead Mechanical Engineer and Process Safety Lead on compliance, operations and quality processes across the Ware Campus.
* Accountable for providing technical knowledge and assurance, leadership, and direction to a team of engineers, ensuring that activities are performed in a fully compliant manner and that all associated decisions are aligned to the site strategy and business needs.
* Act as an Engineering Technical Authority for Mechanical systems, Hazardous Utilities, and associated Infrastructure on site (ensuring documentation and validation lifecycle reviews are conducted).
* Supporting Capital Projects across site. The Ware Campus is seeing a significant amount of investment in Utilities & Facilities infrastructure, seeing multiple large capital asset refreshment programmes in place across the campus.
* Delivering compliance to a range of Quality Policies and Engineering Standards, responsible for networking across the wider GSK network to senior stakeholders.
* Frequent interaction with Quality and Safety Practitioners and Regulatory bodies (via regulatory GMP audits and product market-specific audits). This includes preparing, presenting, interacting, and fronting Technical Quality Audits and Engineering/ EHS Audits.
* Representing the Utilities and Facilities team across root cause of deviations, including collaborating with various departments (eg; Engineering, Quality, EHS and Production).
* Management of asset maintenance strategy on Mechanical systems (such as PSSR schedule adherence) and integrating Continuous Improvement techniques (looking to further integrate digital and data processes to optimize operational effectiveness of the site).
* Responsible for ownership and authoring process and procedures relevant to Mechanical & Process Safety Systems.
* Development of the correct skills and capabilities on site to deliver business needs, including upskilling of engineers within the department/ across site.
* Will lead / be involved in or provide resource for continuous improvement activities across site. Be able to quickly diagnose and resolve issues or problems and provide expertise / specialised knowledge or appropriate resource from within team.
Key Behaviours and Responsibilities (include):
* Ownership of relevant engineering standards and ensuring successful compliance and implementation
* Generating technical improvements and project proposals, designs and plans to give optimum investment value to the site. Take ownership of the delivery of those planned engineering works (utilizing aligned resource from embedded service partners and trusted contractors).
* Managing Investigations (ensuring RCA Toolkit is utilized effectively).
* Coach and mentor the Utilities & Facilities (U&F) team (ensure capability and technical development aligns to operational requirements).
* Supporting the wider engineering team with facility expertise and experience to improve capability and knowledge.
* Developing and maintaining good working relationships with third party service partners and external specialist companies.
About the Ware Site:
We are co-located with our R&D colleagues and recently opened a new, state-of-the-art oral solid dose facility at Ware. At this location our scientists, technicians and engineers (from R&D and Global Supply Chain – GSC) work collaboratively together (using the latest technologies) to rapidly knowledge transfer and deliver GSK’s most innovative, medicines faster and more efficiently. On site we produce over 60 million respiratory inhalers each year with growing demand in future years. The site also processes Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) for use both on site and at other manufacturing sites in our network.

Basic Qualifications:
* Relevant experience / qualifications gained from working in a highly-regulated industry (GMP).
* A Bachelor's degree in mechanical/ chemical engineering or related field of study.
* Proficient in the use of SAP computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS).
* Working towards or achieved CEng Status with the Engineering Council preferable institution IMECHE.
* Experience of providing technical expertise across an organisation.
Preferred Qualifications/ Characteristics:

* Experience with managing suppliers and third-party contractors.
* Experience in defining asset maintenance strategy deployment.
