Your new role
The primary purpose of the role is to support significant projects and enhance service provision. To contribute to excellent, customer-focused services, helping the department in its mission to enhance the experience of the community by providing outstanding information and communication technology services to support learning, research, and enterprise.
Responsibilities include providing first and second line support services on campus, receiving customer enquiries and service requests in person, by phone, and other electronic means. You will record call details appropriately, provide timely and accurate responses to those calls that can be dealt with directly, and ensure that others are referred elsewhere for resolution through an agreed escalation process.

Ability to prioritise your own workload and contribute actively to the team.
Ability to monitor your own progress in project plans and identify the need for further action and resources.
Ability to analyse complex situations, explore, evaluate, and recommend potential solutions.
Additional qualifications include:
- The ability to create roadmaps for deploying specific technologies within an organisation.
- The ability to create clear and concise system documentation, including diagrams that enable systems to be understood and supported by different teams.
- Proficiency in working with office IT applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, and Visio.
- Actively pursuing your own development in relevant knowledge (technical, professional, or specialist).
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and networking protocols.
- Knowledge of a diverse set of technologies including Microsoft Technologies, Desktop Platforms/Operating Systems, Mobile technology/platforms/telephony, Storage & Hosting Platforms, and Cloud Technologies.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging IT trends and how they relate to the needs of the organisation and stakeholder groups.
- Experience supporting complex technical projects and leading smaller projects.
- Experience with current Microsoft Windows server operating systems and/or Linux operating systems to MCSE or equivalent level.
- Experience in the systems development lifecycle in terms of testing, piloting, and deployment stages.
- Willingness to take on cross-service responsibilities outside immediate technical responsibilities by agreement with the Head of Service.
What you'll get in return
Senior IT Advisor - 12-month contract - on-site Manchester - £20 p/hr Inside IR35.
