Join our team as a Health and Safety Manager and play a crucial part in projects of all sizes, scopes and scales. Supporting the Markets and Practices within Transportation you will help develop and deliver various plans and initiatives to support the delivery of a safe and healthy workplace where our people can thrive.
This is a full-time, fixed term contract role for the duration of 2 years with hybrid working of approx. 2-3 days to be office or site based (national travel). The office location is Birmingham (preferred) but could be negotiated.
Your purpose:
* Supporting the development of strategic business plans, you'll be responsible for cascading and communicating targeted campaigns within the markets and practices.
* Working alongside the leadership teams, you'll identify risk profiles, and tailor initiatives that align with UK&I and Transportation business plans.
* You'll be required to provide day to day operational support to the Transportation teams.
* Monitoring incident reports, you'll support investigations, escalating and providing competent advice and guidance where required.
* As a confident and experienced health and safety professional you'll provide subject matter expert and technical advice where required, providing business partnering support.
* You'll proactively promote safe by design principles, and effective 'top down' risk management controls.
* Attending and supporting leadership meetings, you'll be required to develop and deliver risk-based best practice and lessons learned materials as appropriate.
* You'll be required to provide delegation support to the Head of Health and Safety for Strategic Rail, Highways and Local Transport.
* You'll be responsible for completing audit and assurance activities, and supporting visible safety leadership engagement activities.
What you can bring:
* You will hold a recognised safety health and environmental certificate level qualification, and be working towards diploma (minimum).
* You will hold a recognised relevant professional membership (e.g. IOSH or IIRSM) and be maintaining CPD.
* You'll have experience of working within the transportation sector either in a rail, highways or local authority environment (preferred).
* You'll have experience of incident investigation and analysing performance data to give insight and develop lessons learned materials.
* You will possess a strong working knowledge of regulatory requirements including CDM 2015 and duty holder responsibilities.
* Being a high-level user of Microsoft Office applications, you'll able to develop interactive and informative material that facilitates valuable health safety and wellbeing conversations.
* You'll exhibit strong people skills that align with our values; being someone who can partner, empower, enable and influence a variety of internal and external stakeholders and promote psychologically safe environments.
* You will be a motivational force for our people to take ownership of putting safety at the heart of everything we do.
