Liberty Speciality Steels have an exciting opportunity for a Buyer to join our Rotherham Procurement team. This role will focus specifically on the ferro alloys, metals, fluxes, carbon and various materials used in slag powder manufacture categories.
Ferro alloys, metals, fluxes carbon and others are fundamental raw materials for steelmaking in ACP and VIM, as such the Buyer is a key role within the function that is accountable for setting a clear category strategy, increasing co-operation with technical and end users and the efficient and effective sourcing of alloys in order to obtain an optimal price / quality relationship.
The Buyer also has accountability for all elements of contract strategy, new supplier onboarding and site visits, monthly price negotiations & closing. The effective extraction of value from supplier relationships and selling Speciality Steels as a customer to potential new suppliers are also key factors.

The Role of Buyer
As Buyer You Will Be Responsible For
* Support the QMS system in relation to maintaining documentation and procedures needed to run the procurement of alloys in line with audit requirements.
* Produce reports for internal departments (such as price reports, surcharge report and others).
* Administrative support within the department.
* Supplier Market knowledge. Regularly scan the marketplace and suppliers, collect facts and then deliver reports and actions to secure alloys at competitive prices and increase the supplier base.
* Convert demands of end users and construct a sourcing plan that maximizes value across the business within framework of agreed category strategy.
* Deliver all required aspects of pre contract work and the negotiations, close and put in place contracts that deliver values for the business and manage the supplier and end user relationships.
* Acquire through prospecting, using face to face cold calling, new sources of alloys from trades and producers alike, that will assist in meeting procurement objectives within established policies and procedures.
* Support commercial practices based on established policies to ensure fair, ethical and productive relationships with suppliers.
* Challenge the business to ensure it understands the relative Value In use of the alloys available.
* Understand alloys qualities and what the business can and cannot accept.
* Buy alloys at prices better than or in line with market movements.
* Deliver all required aspects of pre contract work and the negotiations, close and put in place contracts that deliver short- and medium-term value for the business, in line with procurement policy and sourcing processes, based on the category strategy.
* Commercial acumen is a core skill in this role which involves multiple negotiations each month. This position requires travel to complete job duties and maintain an effective network of supplier, mill personnel, and industry organizations.
* Provide information to Line Manager and technical management to help develop cost avoidance and savings opportunities in the purchase, transportation, processing and consumption of the alloys.
* The candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to initiate business and must possess strong negotiating, communication, math and problem-solving skills. Candidate must function effectively both independently and as a member of a cross-functional team. High ethical standards and a strong work ethic are key attributes.
Required For The Buyer Role
* The individual needs to have well developed interpersonal and communication skills, and given the international nature of alloy procurement, be comfortable dealing with people from a wide range of cultures.
* Attention to detail is vital, as is the ability to focus and to follow matters through to deliver a successful sourcing outcome.
* A reasonable degree of numeracy is essential.
* A willingness to learn and self-develop, with a focus on achieving both strategic thinking and commercial acumen are key attributes required of the person.
* Full support and training will be given to the right individual.
* CIPS Level 3 is desirable.
