We are currently looking for a General Manager within the division of Medicine.
The post holds management responsibility for the operational management and strategic planning of health services. This post is responsible overall for ensuring that all services are focused on ensuring the most effective and efficient use of resources to deliver a high-quality service that achieves the required performance targets.
The post holder will take a lead role across the Division for a number of areas as delegated by the Deputy Divisional Director, Deputy Clinical Chair and Deputy Director of Nursing for the Elective Portfolio Triumvirate.
The post holder will be expected to provide clear direction on modernisation and improvement of patient services, working with the multi-disciplinary team. He/she will also be expected to ensure that the services provided are responsive to patient needs, that planning of services involving patients and users, and reflect the diverse population served.
The post holder will be expected to provide senior leadership for people management, in order to recruit and retain high quality staff, provide effective appraisal and promote team working and strong staff involvement in decision making within the sphere of their responsibilities.
The post holder will be accountable for ensuring that income and expenditure targets are met for allocated services.
Main duties of the job
* Provide senior leadership and support for all staff.
* Be accountable for the delivery of Trust and Divisional objectives, as outlined in the Divisional Operating Plan.
* Provide direct line management for relevant specialty staff and any relevant Specialty Manager/AGM colleagues.
* Be an active member of the Divisional senior management team and Divisional Board.
* Work closely and effectively with clinical staff and clinical leads across the Division.
* Accountable for the delivery of Division-wide or Trust-wide projects as required.
* Deputise for the Deputy Divisional Director and/or represent the Division of Medicine in internal and external meetings as required.

* Experience of managing large complex services, ideally in a healthcare setting

* Experience of developing operational and strategic service plans and business cases
* Experience of planning and delivery of activity and performance standards, across multiple services
* Experience of financial and budgetary management including delivery of pay and non-pay savings
* Experience of leading service improvement and transformation programmes and projects
* Experience of leading on daily operational issues and participation on the Trust management on-call rota
* Knowledge of NHS Commissioning processes and relevant national performance delivery frameworks
* Knowledge of local and the successful delivery of performance targets
* Knowledge of legislation and requirements of clinical and corporate governance
