About this opportunity
This is a lead role supporting all commissioning activities across Adult Social Care & Housing, Children’s Services and Public Health.
The role is wide-ranging, cutting across three directorates, and is often pacey and transformative across these high-profile services. It’s a great team to work in!
The impact made by this role is significant because it is pivotal in how services are re-framed/re-positioned by the Council, on behalf of its communities.
The team is seen as high performing; with a ‘can do’ attitude. From its inception, it was embedded into Directorates through the corporate business partnering ethos, but the team also has wider relationships across the whole council, which adds further value. The team knows it delivers and is proud of that fact.
Key responsibilities
• Effectively and efficiently manage a team of Commissioners responsible for supporting directorates to re-commission, transform/re-model their services and contract manage within the parameters of both financial envelopes and the Councils Operating Model.
• Create additional value as a member of the Senior Leadership Team in relation to Corporate Procurement Services and wider corporate activities.
Who we’re looking for
• Someone with substantial commissioning experience/knowledge, preferably in the local government sector; and working in politically sensitive arenas to deliver re-modelled/transformed services.
• Someone with excellent ‘people’ skills; with emotional intelligence, who can flex/adapt/interact with strategic/Service Leads in complex/emotive and financially pressured services, and fully articulate the Councils needs to the marketplace, whilst in parallel, develop a high performing team.
• Someone with substantial experience of the relevant policies and legislation governing these service areas.
Fundamentally, we are seeking individuals who embody our organisation's core values: ambitious, collaborative, compassionate, empowering, and innovative. Your commitment to these principles will be instrumental in delivering services that are vital to the well-being and prosperity of our residents.
If this sounds like you, then please get in touch!
We believe in cultivating potential over perfection. The role provides a strong platform from which to move into more senior/personal developmental roles with these three Directorates, and wider still within the Council.
If this job sounds like you and you resonate with our values, we encourage you to apply or contact Conway.stewart@cumberland.gov.uk for an informal chat prior to your application.
