Job Advert: Proving Test Technician

About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Proving Test Technician to join our team. This role is instrumental in supporting powertrain installation projects within off-highway machines. As part of the L5/L6 team in Global Engine Development (GED), you will work across mechanical and electrical aspects of powertrain integration, shake-down, and testing. The position is based at our Europe Research & Development Centre in Peterborough, UK.
Key Responsibilities:
* Adhere to health and safety policies and safe working practices.
* Follow documented standard work procedures for defect-free assembly of parts and components.
* Work to engineers' instructions to install prototype, pilot, and production powertrains into machines.
* Operate various off-highway vehicles, including Hydraulic Excavators, Back-hoe Loaders, Telehandlers, and Track Type Tractors.
* Instrument powertrain installations with thermocouples, pressure transducers, speed pickups, and other sensors.
* Diagnose and resolve faults on powertrains and machinery.
* Read and interpret engineering drawings (electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic).
* Manufacture parts using in-house machining, welding, fabrication, and electronics facilities.
* Produce electrical looms to interface powertrains and machines.
* Travel to off-site test and development facilities, both company-owned and third-party (including some overseas travel).
* Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe work environment in line with 5S and Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) principles.
* Engage in training and continuous learning as required.
Skills and Experience:
* Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical/electronic systems, with working knowledge of powertrains and machinery.
* Ability to read, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions.
* Effective teamwork skills to achieve objectives collaboratively.
* Knowledge of instrumentation and its application.
* Strong communication skills to liaise across different levels of the organisation.
* Flexible approach to job role and responsibilities.
* Proficiency in using hand/power tools, lifting, and welding equipment.
* Willingness to undertake required training and learning.
* Ideally, an engineering or motor mechanics apprenticeship with relevant work experience.
* Working towards or completed relevant higher education (e.g., NVQ Level 3).
* Good PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and company-designed software.
Desirable Experience & Skills:
* Strong machine/engine hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical diagnostic skills.
* Experience in maintenance and repair of off-highway vehicles or large goods vehicles.
* Understanding of core electrical principles.
