Main Duties
● Classroom assistance as directed - working with individuals and also groups of children on a variety of tasks or interventions.
● Supervising playtimes.
● Supervising children after school, including walking a small group of children to the bus.
● Administering basic first aid, as qualified to do so.
● Mounting work and assembling displays.
● Preparing resources for pupils.
● Maintaining resources.
● Administrative tasks such as maintaining assessments and records and logging behaviour, welfare and safeguarding concerns using the school’s management information system.
● Occasionally accompanying school trips as a responsible adult.
● Communicating with parents as and when the need arises.
● Any other assistance as required by the Head of the Prep School.
● To positively and actively contribute to the school by providing high quality, engaging support to our Teachers and Pupils.
Skills and Experience
● Good level of numeracy, literacy and IT.
● Experience teaching a systematic synthetic phonics programme would be desirable.
● Requirement to be flexible, reliable and have good communication skills.
● Be in sympathy with the strong Christian ethos of Birkdale School.
● Be able to work within organisational procedures and meet the required standards for the role.
● Be able to work collaboratively and supportively with school colleagues.
● Be able to relate effectively to parents and to pupils.
● Be resilient and demonstrate an ability to work well under pressure.
● Display commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people, and be able to form and maintain appropriate relationships.
● Previous experience of working in a school would be advantageous.
Other Duties
● Other duties include assistance with playground supervision and school activities, attending staff meetings and professional training as appropriate. Teaching Assistants are expected to carry out their duties in accordance with school policies. This is a developing post and flexibility will be an asset. Full-time Teaching Assistants begin their duties at 8.15 am. The normal Pre-Prep (Infants) school day finishes at 3.30 pm and the Prep (Juniors) school day finishes at 3.50pm.

● To undertake such other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties/responsibilities/grade of the post.
