About the job?
* You will be responsible for providing a cost-effective professional supply chain management discipline which supports the operation of GWR fleets in the West Engineering Depots (Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth and Penzance). This will be achieved through ensuring materials demands are met with respect to timeliness, quantity, quality, cost and cash flow factors.
* You will ensure that stock is well maintained and fully controlled which allows for full reconciliation with financier/ balance sheet requirements with no loss to GWR.
* You will implement cost reduction initiatives to reduce stock holdings, usage, waste, stock deterioration and unit cost and obtain efficiencies though continuous improvement
What you'll be doing?
* Forecasting all material requirements for Fleet activities including heavy repairs, modifications, examinations, plant maintenance and emergencies; ensuring supply meets demand at all times.
* Working with the materials teams at other sites to ensure all materials planning and scheduling is effective and meets the requirements of the business, which includes the tracking of major components at whatever stage they are in the repair cycle.
* Reviewing and taking action to reduce material costs and improve stores performance.
* Order placement including computer system authorisation / recommendation of orders and supply monitoring, ensuring that urgent and appropriate action is taken to resolve unsatisfied demands.
* The security and storage of all stores and materials to minimise stock deterioration/ losses and ensuring that any losses are fully investigated and approved in line with GWR's procedures.
* Monitoring supplier performance aiming to minimise stock holdings whilst ensuring supply equals demand at all times.
* Reconciliation of third party owned materials and components, to ensure that all inventory is physically accounted for and is accurately maintained in the materials management system.
* Management of stores layout and housekeeping taking into account efficiency, environmental and Lean / 6S principles
* Management of fuel flow system
* Effective management of the depot materials management function including the line management of the depot materials management teams including performance, training and developmentPerform other such tasks as directed by the Head of Fleet Production
About you
You'll need to be:
* NVQ Supply Chain Management Level 2, 3 and 4 or Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply professional examinations (desirable
* Ideally corporate member of Institute of Purchasing and Supply (desirable)
* NVQ in Team Leadership Level 2 or greater (desirable)
* Procurement and materials management procedures and systems
* Stores management and organisation principles
* Inventory Management Systems
* Contract management
* Knowledge and experience of finance including statistics and purchasing
* Microsoft Word and Excel
* Familiar with modern Traction and Rolling Stock systems and materials requirements or similar experience gained in the airline industry or defence or similar organisations
* Strong planning and organising skills
* Excellent communicator – verbal and written
* Commercially astute with good negotiating skills
* Work effectively with Team members
* Effective management skills
* Excellent problem solver
