We are looking for an experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join our Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) at Sheffield Children's.
You will have expert clinical skills, strong leadership abilities, and service development experience. As an ACP, you will help deliver high-quality, autonomous care to children and families within the ICU and HDU settings, and provide meaningful contribution to service development, working as part of a dedicated consultant-led team.
You must hold a recognised Advanced Clinical Practitioner Master's degree including the V300 qualification of an independent prescriber.
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Lead Nurse (PCCU), your responsibilities will include:
1. Work as an autonomous practitioner, delivering all aspects of management and care.
2. Provide expert clinical care within PCCU (ICU & HDU) through comprehensive health assessments, clinical diagnosis, and treatment plans.
3. Collaborate with a consultant-led team to deliver holistic, therapeutic care to children and families.
4. Demonstrate leadership skills in improving healthcare quality within PCCU, and supporting service development.
5. Advocate for children and families, ensuring ethical decision-making and promoting patient choice.
6. Contribute to the 24/7 rota, working day and night shifts alongside junior doctors and other ACPs.
7. Support divisional management teams in achieving strategic objectives and service goals.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
* Educated to masters levels in Advanced Clinical Practice
* Registered as a non-medical prescriber with the NMC/HPC
* Assessing and mentoring qualification
* Advanced Paediatric Life Support provider
* Evidence of ongoing professional development linked to advanced practice within PCCU.
* Leadership modules
* Advanced Paediatric Life Support instructor
Experience
* Significant post registration experience where autonomous working at an advanced level has been required in the specialty area.
* Experience of clinical management and leadership
* Evidence of developing and improving clinical practice
* Evidence of teaching and assessing in the clinical area
* Experience of collaborative working within multi professional settings and contributing to effective team working
* Experience of leading service improvement and innovation through service/practice development initiatives, audit and research
Knowledge & Skills
* Evidence of clinical skills relevant to the specialty
* Advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making skills with the ability to comprehensively assess patients within specialty and throughout the Trust.
* Evidence of participation in collaborative research within children's intensive care
* Insight into current health policy and an awareness of the current issues in paediatric intensive care
* High level problem solving and complex decision-making skills
* Ability to draw on a diverse range of knowledge in their decision making to determine evidence based therapeutic interventions (which will usually include prescribing medication and actively monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions)
* Ability to understand and analyse professional and ethical issues and apply them to service development.
* Detailed knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application
* Ability to respond to frequently changing demands and activities according to the level of need and urgency
* Ability to work in a complex, changing and challenging environment
