Nursery Practitioner Apprentice

We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring Apprentice who will report to the Head of Nurseries within the 2 College Nursery sites on a supporting role as an Apprentice. You will be supporting the team with the daily childcare routines including child observation, key working support with children and planning and implementing the daily activities with the support of the Nursery team.
Day-to-day duties may involve:
Supporting child development
* To be a key person to update support and extend key children’s learning journeys via observations, assessments and activity plans.
* To carry out all key persons related responsibilities in building relationships with children and their families.
Communication and Engagement
* To work in partnership with parents both formally and informally.
* To welcome parents and children to the Nursery in a cheerful and friendly manner.
* To communicate effectively with members of the Nursery team.
* To communicate and engage with children to support their speech and language development using different methods.
Child Protection, Safeguarding and promoting welfare of the child
* To work within all relevant Capital City College Nurseries Child Protection and Safeguarding policies and procedures.
* To work within Capital City College Nurseries Equal Opportunities Policy and contribute to making an inclusive environment.
* To manage children’s behavior and routines in line with Capital City Colleges Nurseries Behavior policies and Procedures.
* To undertake specific duties and tasks related to the safety and hygiene of the children and the cleanliness of the Nursery.
* To ensure that children are kept safe, and that staff fully understand, and when necessary follow child protection procedures.
Skills and experience:
* We are seeking a motivated apprentice to join our Nursery team, working within the two College Nurseries.
* You will plan, organise, deliver and evaluate activities and learning experiences for children within the Early Years Foundation Stage in partnership with parents.
* You will support a group of key children and complete observations to track their learning and development in line with Early Years Foundation Stage and current Ofsted Statutory guidance.
* You will build positive relationships with parents and will liaise with parents on all aspects of their child’s care and development.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
1. Hold a minimum of Grade A-C in English and Maths.
2. Achieved a level 2 qualification in Childcare and working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and current Ofsted Statutory guidance.
Knowledge and Understanding
1. An understanding of and commitment to the College’s Equal Opportunities Policies and a willingness to promote equality of opportunity in all aspects of the work.
2. Knowledge of IT systems for administrative work.
Skills and Abilities
1. Fast and accurate keyboard skills using Microsoft Word, Excel and email and other IT administrative applications – ability to learn database software.
2. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, identify priorities and organise own workload.
3. Ability to work as part of a team.
4. Good written, oral and numeracy skills.
5. Orderly and systematic approach to work to achieve high levels of accuracy.
6. To show empathy and understanding of children under five.
7. Ability to act diplomatically and with discretion, always maintaining confidentiality.
8. Excellent verbal and communication skills with children, parents and staff.

* Early Years Educator Level 3 Standard, 18 months practical with an additional 8 End Point Assessment period.

Working Week and Hours:
* Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm or 8.30am – 4.30pm.
Salary: £25,268 per annum (Pro rata) *please note the role is term time only.
