Senior Finance Manager - Financial Control
Intro
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Finance team as a Senior Finance Manager - Financial Control on a fixed term basis (15 months), based in our Darlington office (hybrid working).
Who we are
Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds.
Our heritage of looking after the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and our unique outlook on how we serve our members. Railpen takes a holistic view, focusing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.
The role
The Senior Finance Manager (Financial Control) will be the 'go-to' person, ensuring the delivery of a variety of regulatory and statutory deliverables including externally audited statutory financial statements and tax returns, with effective coordination of the production process and external audit, within a robust financial controls framework.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.
The person
The successful candidate will have technical accounting expertise, confidence in implementing new or changes to company law and Finance GAAP, experience of co-ordinating regulatory and statutory reporting and financial controls policy within a financial services environment. You will proactively identify and drive the delivery of an agenda for continuous improvement both in terms of quality and efficiency, across the processes and systems, and champion automation where feasible.
You will demonstrate a risk-based mind-set, ensuring oversight of financial control policy, and development of MI reporting. The ability to take ownership of any issues and discrepancies identified is a must, alongside effective organisational skills to ensure all deadlines are met to the agreed timescales. You will be a qualified accountant with several years post qualification experience of leading Financial Control process led teams.
Previous experience of managing, developing and coaching team members would be a distinct advantage. You will have a collaborative approach to working across Finance to ensure the culture of continuous improvement is understood and engaged with. The ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and help to embed a culture of continuous improvement is key.
Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. They help us make decisions and shape our relationships with others. They're what we stand for. You will actively demonstrate our values, helping to create a safe environment, to place the needs of the community above oneself and, through a culture of 'fair challenge', align to the best interests of our members.
