Job summary We are looking for a confident, enthusiastic and dynamic psychologist to join our busy multi-disciplinary Children and Young People's Service working across Newcastle and Gateshead. There are two key roles within this post which together provide an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to develop and extend their clinical skills and knowledge. The post involves three days working with our neurodevelopmental assessment team and two days with the mental health team. You will be working in an environment where there is strong emphasis on teamwork and quality of clinical care. Across both roles you will work collaboratively with our friendly multidisciplinary team members including other qualified psychologists and our fantastic Assistant Psychologists who support the qualified roles. Professionally there are links with the wider network of psychologists who deliver psychology into our learning disability team. As a service, we value the role of robust, supportive and effective supervision and you will have access to separate clinical and management supervision at a frequency that meets your needs. The post-holder will also have the opportunity to contribute to the supervision of Assistant Psychologists and team members from wider professions. Main duties of the job Within the neurodevelopmental assessment team you will be responsible for leading assessment and formulation of complex presentations, exploring possible neurodevelopmental vulnerabilities and/or disorder as well as thoroughly considering wider factors and comorbidity. Our assessments provide thorough profiling of young people's strengths, needs and difficulties helping to ensure that they have access to the most appropriate understanding and supports as they develop and grow. We are ideally looking for a clinician who has knowledge and training in neurodevelopmental assessment skills and who is able to put the young person and their family at the centre of every assessment. The successful candidate will be supported in developing specialist skills that are relevant to this role, for example there will be opportunity to complete training in ADOS assessment. Within the mental health team you will be delivering psychological therapies that are appropriate to the presenting difficulties, in the context of a comprehensive formulation. Within the mental health pathway we deliver a range of psychological therapies including CBT, EMDR, Family Therapy, Art Therapy and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to further develop their psychological therapies skills through co-working and robust supervision. About us We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. As a service we believe in investing in staff and there will be support to develop leadership skills and to contribute to service developments. There will also be opportunities to engage in delivering teaching, training, service evaluation and research according to your interests and service need. We will expect the post holder to actively pursue continuous professional development and will support them to identify needs and to progress in a meaningful way.
