Job overview
We are recruiting for a Dietetic Apprentice who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
Main duties of the job
The dietetic team sits within a wider therapy team, including physiotherapy and occupational therapy staff. The dietetic team has 14 dietitians, 4 dietetic assistants and a dietetic apprentice. The dietetic team is divided into sub-teams depending on speciality and paediatrics is also part of the acute service. Band 5 Dietitians have the opportunity to participate in rotational training between acute medicine / frailty, general medicine / gastroenterology / oncology, surgical / critical care and paediatrics.
The post holder will be part of an undergraduate apprenticeship programme in collaboration with Teesside University, having taught lectures 1 day / week and working as a dietetic assistant throughout training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide timely dietetic care to patients, working effectively as part of the Acute Dietetic Team.
The post-holder will undertake 6-monthly rotations when qualified, specializing in surgery / critical care, gastroenterology / general medicine / oncology, acute medicine and frailty and paediatrics.
To provide a 7 day and extended hours working pattern.
To work as part of an Acute Dietetic Team undertaking assessment of patients including those with a variety of presentations and conditions; using clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques to formulate individualised treatment plans and programmes.
To deliver individualised dietetic treatment programmes using a broad range of skills in individual and group settings.
To continually reassess patient progress, adapting treatment plans accordingly, and developing discharge plans under the supervision of more senior dietitians.
Person specification
Qualifications
* 3 A Levels (including biology or human biology) or equivalent
* Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths
Knowledge
* Competency in nutritional assessment of patients
Experience
* Experience as a dietetic assistant
* Hospital based experience or equal area within a fast-paced environment
* Experience interacting with members of the public
* Experience of supervising others in a work / volunteering capacity
Skills
* Good verbal and written communication skills, including IT skills (Microsoft programmes and keyboard)
* Show ability to motivate and encourage others
