Would you like to work for an award-winning boatbuilding company based in waterside offices near Falmouth, Cornwall - the perfect destination for sailors, surfers and beach lovers?
Cockwells is globally respected in the marine industry and at the forefront of designing and building luxury motor launches and superyacht tenders. We cleverly integrate traditional boatbuilding skills with innovative engineering and modern techniques to build vessels of the highest quality.
We’re looking for a full time or part-time (min 3 days a week) Technical Design Assistant to come and join our team.
After initial induction and familiarisation with the company, the successful candidate will report to the Design Director in this busy, growing organisation. The candidate will:
* Create weight estimate documents for our latest superyacht tenders and production boats.
* Monitor these weight estimates as components are made and assembled on the shop floor. Check centre of gravity positions and hook weights are not overloaded.
* Assist with design of vessels to make sure they are RCD compliant.
* Read technical reports from subcontractors, such as Noise Reports and report findings back to Design Director for implementation into vessel design.
* Be present on sea trials to help with stability and sound testing and recording of data for Cockwells use and RCD requirements.
* Provide technical support to the shop floor team.
* Work with the composites team to create a database of layup records.
* Keep the network in order with correct version control on documents.
Essential skills and experience
* The successful candidate ideally has experience in the industry or a degree in Yacht Design and Production (or similar) and be confident in assisting with the technical aspects of boat design. It would be an added bonus if you are able to produce 2D drawings and 3D models for a variety of components.
* Proficient in the use of Rhino3D and the add-on Orca.
* Ability to set out technical drawings in 2D.
* Ability to accurately weigh and measure components on the shop floor and monitor weight documents throughout the boat build.
* Knowledge of the RCD.
* Have marine knowledge.
