We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable, innovative, and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team to assist with running the routine Haematology & Coagulation service at Ipswich Hospital.
You will be HCPC registered with knowledge and experience of NHS laboratory Haematology & Coagulation commensurate with this band. You will be confident and motivated and possess a wide range of skills demonstrating good numeracy and literacy, training experience, and attention to detail. You will have previous experience of using the ACL TOP and Sysmex XN analysers or demonstrate an understanding of the technologies used within Haematology & Coagulation.

The role will include:
1. Supervising the Coagulation and Haematology section and helping manage the daily organisation and staffing of the section with the current post holders.
2. Ensuring the analysers are maintained correctly and undertaking any troubleshooting that is required.
3. Dealing with engineering visits and organising the section around planned and unplanned analytical downtime.
4. Monitoring internal and external quality-control performance and initiating any remedial action required.
5. Dealing with stock control and ordering of reagents and materials.
6. Writing and updating SOPs and staff competency logs.
7. Ensuring that the section remains ISO:15189 compliant.
8. Deputising for the Haematology Lead in their absence, requiring a good knowledge of both routine Haematology and Coagulation.
9. Overseeing the raising of purchase orders and receipting invoices.
10. Networking with our referral providers and dealing with information requests and problems.
The post is line managed by the Blood Sciences – Haematology Manager at Ipswich.
Our pathology department is part of the collaborative East Coast Pathology Network.
