We are looking for an Engineering Manager to take on the opportunity manage the team that deliver impact on the quality and ease of use of the UW Cashback card in everyday situations as well as provide our Financial Services Specialists with robust functionalities that facilitate their tasks, allowing them to better assist and support our customers.

The Cashback Card Team (CBC) is devoted to making our prepaid cashback card an indispensable and rewarding tool for the more than 250k customers who currently use it, and helping convince the rest to start! The Team's focus lies in enhancing the usability and convenience of the card so it becomes an effortless asset in every customer’s wallet. The card provides great opportunities for customers to earn significant cashback at a large pool of retail partners (M&S, Boots, Argos, Primark, and more). Central to their mission is the dedication to delivering high-performing mobile and web apps that streamline the customer experience and maximise savings.

As an Engineering Manager you can expect to lead the Cashback Card engineering team, whose mission is to improve the customer experience of using the cashback card by introducing new solutions. You will still spend time writing code but first and foremost you will be responsible for the productivity and work quality of the team, the progression and wellbeing of your team members, identifying and improving bottlenecks in team processes and spotting and clearing impediments to current deliverables. You'll also work closely the Product lead to manage the project scope and ensure the team delivers what's needed on the technical end.
Key responsibilities:
3. Engineering and technical Expect some individual contribution within the role off the critical path.Ensure the team’s work is up to standards.Understand the very complex problem domains.Have a good understanding of event-based microservice architectures.
4. Delivery Manage the team’s delivery and workload and ensure the team delivers good quality, valuable work at a reasonable and sustainable pace.Work with agile practices and facilitate continuous improvement in the team.
5. Leadership Act as a leader and stakeholder for the technical roadmap of the Cashback card product.Create visibility to the team of upcoming work; Expand the horizon on the team backlog; Bring in broader context relevant to the team.Strive to develop engineers within the team and help get them to the next level.
6. Management Shape good habits and create a good rhythm for the team.Running effective meetings and create room for all team members to voice their thoughts.Line manage and coach people 1:1.Identify high and low performers, skill gaps, and headcount needs for the team.Make sure conversations that need to happen do happen and with the right people involved.Build and maintain an awareness of team dynamics at play and (to an extent) personal factors.
