The Electrical & Instrumentation technician will possess a comprehensive range of electrical and instrumentation knowledge with suitable experience for both trouble shooting and installation work. The ideal candidate will possess qualifications in hazardous area working (CompEx) and ideally within the wiring regulations (17th edition). Experience and knowledge gained working within top tier CoMAH regulations including corresponding environmental, health and safety legislative requirements are fundamental to this role.
Responsibilities
To be responsible to the Engineering Supervisor for:
1. To ensure all duties and assigned activities are carried out in compliance with statutory legal requirements and the companies quality, health & safety and environmental policies
2. Promote a positive health and safety culture by sustaining good housekeeping standards, wearing correct PPE, reporting any observed near misses and isolating any unsafe situations
3. Completion of daily work to suitable standards using CMMS job sheets for routine maintenance, calibration and testing of the site equipment ensuring correct completion of jobs
4. Ensure that appropriate repairs and routine maintenance requirements are identified and undertaken as necessary to maintain plant availability and efficiency
5. Responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of all relevant electrical equipment and instrumentation, ensuring all work undertaken to the highest standards and within required timescales
6. Ensure that all equipment defects and alarms are reported and that they are appropriately handled ensuring unsafe all items are suitably isolated and communicated
7. Ensure all waste generated on site is disposed of efficiently in line with current legislation whilst maintaining
8. Follow Tradebe permit to work procedures ensuring that all tasks to be performed are covered by a permit, the permit is correctly approved and that all hazards are understood and isolations are suitably made prior to starting work
9. Support engineering department to flexibly respond to business needs through performing additional tasks including basic mechanical tasks, fork lift driving etc. in accordance with competencies and departmental requirements
10. Assist in the detailed planning and preparation of plant maintenance for shutdown periods as required
11. Follow change management (MOC) system by ensuring that all actions have been approved and using own assessment ensuring no impact to normal operation or statutory requirements prior to physically making change
12. Striving to improve plant operation and control through electrical and instrumentation maintenance support to maximise plant efficiency whilst identifying any potential continuous improvement opportunities to improve control, operation or maintenance
13. Providing basic training or awareness for other engineers or operators in areas which they are expert
14. Assist E&I Supervisor in all aspects of his work and deputise as required in his absence
Role
15. Ensure that all tasks performed are conducted to good Health, Safety and Environmental practices, paying particular attention to housekeeping and that all defects or issues are reported
16. Housekeeping standards are maintained around the plant in accordance with best practises
17. Participate in risk assessments ensuring that assessments in place are suitable, up to date and include everyday tasks and routines
18. Aiming to achieve efficient and maximised operation of control equipment ensuring equipment is used safely as per instructions by suitably monitoring process parameters
19. To assist E&I supervisor to ensure that electrical maintenance and construction schedules are managed, incorporating all required routines whilst minimising plant down time
20. Suitable precautions are used to ensure all electrical work, process break-ins and isolations are communicated to the permit writer; this must include required cleaning or flushing if required and testing prior to starting work
21. A range of experience from various types of single term controllers to software packages or PLC logic would be an advantage
22. Managing the disposal of all Company waste arising's, where applicable identify new disposal routes, which will be operated within Health Safety and Environmental Regulations, and that may offer advantages to the Company. Where such routes are in use, you are, with the assistance of the SHEQ Manager, to ensure that existing regulations and good practice regimes are being followed within these sites
23. Ensure suitable standards are used for all installations in terms of legislation, best practice and company standards. If required, suitable testing and or calibrations are performed for all equipment / instrumentation prior to handover
24. Analyse and interpret data in order to resolve breakdowns and problems around plant
25. Report and provide timely feedback on activities, any handover faults, breakdowns or isolations, near misses or alarms through the E&I supervisor using appropriate handover reports
26. Positively contribute to the engineering and production department performance objectives
27. A flexible approach is required when working and availability for work during out of hours breakdowns or weekend shutdowns through availability of reasonable amounts of overtime to enable the company to meet its production needs
28. To undergo any necessary training to keep abreast of new technologies or health & safety requirements
