Health & Safety Coordinator - Zoo
Location: Broxbourne, Hertfordshire (EN10 area)
Salary: £21,000 per annum (FTE £35,000)
Type: Part-Time (24 hours per week over 3 days, including some weekend work)
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Health & Safety Coordinator to join a well-established organisation based in Broxbourne. This part-time position involves developing and maintaining a strong culture of health, safety, and environmental responsibility across a diverse and dynamic site.
You will ensure compliance with UK health and safety regulations, lead training and emergency planning initiatives, conduct inspections and audits, and support both staff and contractors in maintaining high standards of safety.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures
2. Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with current health and safety legislation
3. Monitor and audit safety practices, investigating incidents and accidents where required
4. Deliver training and lead emergency response drills
5. Oversee Safe Systems of Work, Permit to Work processes, and contractor safety
6. Manage environmental protection efforts, including waste disposal and emissions monitoring
7. Carry out site inspections and coordinate third-party testing of systems and equipment
8. Support building and maintenance works from a health and safety perspective
Ideal Candidate
1. Full UK driving licence
2. Relevant health and safety qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent)
3. Proven experience in a similar health and safety role
4. Strong knowledge of UK health and safety regulations and best practices
5. Experience with risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work, accident investigations, and PUWER
6. Familiarity with building services systems and general maintenance procedures
7. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
8. Competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to learn bespoke systems
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the construction and maintenance industry, including CDM 2015 regulations
2. Understanding of zoonotic disease and animal management health and safety considerations
3. First Aid trained or willingness to complete First Aid training
