Job responsibilities
We are seeking a Biomedical Scientist with a strong work ethic and good organisation skills to become a section lead in Immunology, initially the role will be as the section lead of Immunochemistry. This service mainly involves the diagnosis of myeloma patients using a variety of analysers and techniques, particularly electrophoresis; however, you might be required to lead other sections in Immunology. The successful applicant will be expected to deliver a high-quality service, striving to always improve processes and increase efficiency. The Immunology department has full UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and the Immunochemistry section is well equipped with analysers such as Sebia OCTA, Sebia Hydrasys, Opilite, and DS2 analysers. The normal operating hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.
Your Main Duties:
* To organise the day-to-day running of the Immunochemistry section to ensure samples are processed within the expected turnaround times.
* To ensure that work is carried out efficiently and accurately in accordance with standard operating procedures.
* To perform analysis of National External Quality Assessment Schemes (NEQAS) and Internal Quality Assurance schemes (IQC) and to ensure that appropriate corrective action is taken when required.
* To ensure that departmental maintenance protocols are followed so that equipment performs at optimal levels.
* To partake in the Quality Assurance system (Q-pulse) in the laboratory.
* To plan schedules of training and monitor competency of staff.
* To monitor, record, and advise on the correct interpretation of results.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential
* HCPC approved Biomedical Science degree (BSc) or other HCPC approved degree/top ups
* HCPC registered
* Evidence of current CPD activities
* MSc or equivalent level of knowledge in relevant discipline
* Specialist portfolio in relevant discipline or experience demonstrating an equivalent level of knowledge / experience relevant to the role
* Experience of working at band 6 level (or equivalent) to include the ability to provide supervision / leadership and troubleshoot non-routine issues as they arise
Desirable
* IT competency (hospital IT systems, outlook, Microsoft)
* Experience in a large acute hospital laboratory
