Glasgow Life is looking for a Senior Events Lead to join us on a full-time, fixed term contract for a period up to December 2028. As Senior Events Lead you will be joining our in-demand Events Team. You will be central to a dedicated team, which are integral to the hosting of Commonwealth Games 2026 and the delivery of Glasgow’s Host City commitments for UEFA EURO 2028. More about our Events team Glasgow Life is the strategic lead for events in the city. The team invests to attract, create and grow major cultural and sporting events. We deliver high-profile annual events, including the Merchant City Festival, Glasgow Mela, the World Pipe Band Championships and Glasgow's winter events. We also deliver one-off major events and programmes, most recently delivering the World Athletics Indoors Championships 2024, the inaugural 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships and European Capital of Sport 2023, with planning underway to host Commonwealth Games 2026 and UEFA EURO 2028. Our team are the initial point of contact for events coming to the city. This includes working with local, national and international partners to maximise the economic, marketing and social benefits of events to the city. We aim to position and promote Glasgow as a world-leading event destination boosting the city’s tourism profile, while driving positive impacts and legacies for local communities. The role As Senior Events Lead, you take a key leadership role in the Events Team, working closely with the Head of Events in the delivery of a portfolio of events and projects that support the delivery of the Glasgow Events Strategy across the team, organisation and city to maximise the economic, sporting, cultural and social benefits and legacies of the events portfolio to the city. As Senior Events Lead you will initially focus on initiating governance and planning for the Commonwealth Games 2026, moving to become to full-time project lead for EURO 2028. Declaration of Interest is a requirement (ALL Grade 8+ posts & any grade in procurement, finance or events) For Fixed Term Roles - If offer is made to internal employee (Glasgow Life or Council Family), at the end of the temporary period, eligible employees, if agreed will have a right to return to a role at their substantive grade within the council family.
The candidate
If you’re interested in joining us as Senior Events Lead you’ll need:
• Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience in a senior position with a focus on the delivery of major sporting and/or cultural events
• Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to establish and manage complex relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, across all levels and international jurisdictions.
• Experience of business planning, project management, financial and budget management skills and reporting within a complex delivery and stakeholder environment.

Some of our roles are currently piloting hybrid working, with teams working between the office and home. Your line manager will agree these days with you. This balance enables you to continue much-needed collaborative working.
Our Albion Street Office has great links to public transport.
This role is working Monday to Friday, with flexibility required for evening and weekend working in the lead up to and delivery of Events, there will be some national and international travel to represent Glasgow Life as needed.
