Commercial Manager - Civil Engineering & Groundworks
Our client, a leading Groundworks & Civil Engineering contractor providing high quality services to main contractors and national housebuilders across the UK. Their services encompass earthworks, civil engineering, plot groundworks, roads & sewers, and a range of other construction solutions.
Due to company growth, they are seeking a Commercial Manager with a dual role in both estimating and quantity surveying to join their team. As the Commercial Manager, you will primarily focus on estimating, but will also be responsible for managing all commercial aspects of their projects from tender to final account.

Responsibilities
* Lead the preparation of accurate and competitive tenders for groundworks and civil engineering projects.
* Provide detailed cost estimates, including labour, materials, and subcontractor costs.
* Collaborate with internal teams to prepare and submit bids for both main contractors and house builders.
* Keep up to date with industry trends, pricing, and supplier negotiations to ensure competitive pricing.
* Identify cost-saving opportunities during the tendering phase without compromising project quality.
* Review and manage contracts, ensuring that they align with the company's commercial strategy and compliance requirements.
* Oversee the financial performance of projects, ensuring cost control, cash flow management, and profitability.
* Manage valuations, applications for payments, and variations, ensuring timely invoicing and payments from clients.
* Provide accurate financial reports, forecasts, and budgets to the senior management team.
* Negotiate and agree on final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
Requirements
* Experience in a similar role within the ground works or civil engineering sectors.
* Experience estimating for main contractors.
* Strong understanding of ground works and civil engineering processes.
* Proficiency in using industry-standard estimating software and Microsoft Office suite.
* Proven track record of managing projects commercially, from tender to final account, ensuring profitability.
* Excellent negotiation and communication skills to manage client and subcontractor relationships.
* Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering (HND/BSc preferred).
