Job summary August 2025 start date Homerton Healthcare is looking to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Acute Medicine with a specialty interest. The post holders will be asked to commit to fixed term posts of 6-12 months. The postholder will work within the Acute Medical Department, as well as being given dedicated time within your rota pattern (approximately 2 clinical sessions per week) to work in your chosen specialty. Exact details of split to be calculated upon recruitment. The postholder will also be encouraged to pursue other specialty activities and time to accommodate this will be incorporated into your rota pattern. Opportunities include specialist clinics, procedural sessions and development of procedural competencies. Activity within your chosen special interest will be supervised by a consultant from your chosen specialty. The exact nature of the activity and area of special interest will be tailored to the individual post holder but may include speciality clinics in Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Respiratory or Cardiology Medicine. Other opportunities could include endoscopy experience, bronchoscopy, cardiology testing (such as echocardiograms). Main duties of the job The postholder will also work within the Acute Medicine Department which will include working in the Homerton Ambulatory Medicine Unit (HAMU). This is a consultant led service which assesses and manages patients requiring on-going treatment or investigation that would otherwise have required admission. Additional responsibilities may include working on the Acute Medical unit alongside the medical team. Ambulatory Care is the delivery of emergency hospital care without admission to an acute inpatient bed. HAMU manages patients requiring on-going treatment or investigation that would otherwise have required admission is delivered either by scheduling return visits to the ambulatory service or by management on the same day. This includes seeing all stable GP and ED referrals to the medical take where further input is required but admission is not indicated. The postholder will also be encouraged to pursue other, non-clinical, activities including education and simulation (including formal train the trainer courses), specialty clinics/theatre and critical care experience. Previous post holders have also led large quality improvement projects and clinical informatics improvements. A study budget is available to facilitate external learning opportunities and in house teaching can also be provided.
