JOB TITLE: Social Sustainability Director
LOCATIONS: Birmingham / London
HOURS: Full-Time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
About This Opportunity
As a Social Sustainability leader within our Business and Commercial Banking (BCB) business unit, you'll embody the group's values to promote equity, justice, inclusivity, and high quality of life for the BCB client segment. Your role is to shape, lead, and empower colleagues across BCB to ensure the fundamentals of Environment Social & Governance (ESG) excellence are achieved, including analysis, governance, planning, managing finances, and delivering value.
You'll understand, embrace, and be able to select with confidence the most appropriate tools and methods to deliver change in the Social Sustainability space. Striving to build relationships across change teams, underserved business communities, and third-party organisations to drive continuous improvement efforts. You'll role model a desire to develop your skills and experience, create space to learn and collaborate, demonstrate resilience and adaptability, confidence, and innovate to test new ideas whilst coaching others to achieve delivery excellence.
Responsibilities
* Customer Needs: Meet the needs of underserved business customers related to a range of products, services, and partner solutions. Identify and manage business impacts on people, both positive and negative.
* Organisational Impact: Identify shortcomings, suggest and implement improvements to existing business practices through a Social Sustainability lens while developing and delivering projects and workstreams within the organisation's change management programme.
* Strategic Planning: Develop and deliver elements of a strategic planning system, coordinating across multiple teams to develop medium-term and long-term strategies that help the organisation achieve its priorities and fulfil its business plans. Make people feel part of the development process and ensure they and their descendants will benefit from it.
* Leadership and Management: Develop and deliver a plan for a specific area of responsibility by managing others, implementing the team's formal development framework while informally coaching others throughout the organisation in Social Sustainability themes, pursuing and investing in opportunities for personal development.
* Objective and Outcome Setting: Set medium-term objectives, taking responsibility for implementing a team's performance management systems. Manage and deliver required outcomes for a portfolio of projects. Manage the development and operation of knowledge management systems.
* Budget Management: Develop and deliver Social Sustainability budget plans. Oversee third-party governance activities with multi-year investment dependencies, such as with the Black Business Advisory Committee.
* Risk & Compliance: Ensuring adherence to regulatory and compliance standards, developing and delivering a contingency plan for significant aspects of the risk management and control process. Focusing on social justice and 'access to finance' themes.

What You'll Need
Your application will demonstrate:
* Critical Thinking: Ability to analyse complex social sustainability issues and develop innovative solutions. Strong decision-making skills to navigate challenges and drive impactful change.
* Customer Centricity & Customer Insights: Deep understanding of customer needs and the ability to tailor social sustainability initiatives to meet those needs. Experience in gathering and using customer insights to inform planning and project execution.
* Emotional Intelligence & Storytelling: High emotional intelligence to build strong relationships and effectively communicate the importance of social sustainability. Proficiency in storytelling to inspire and engage partners, both internally and externally.
* Agile Approach, Delivery, Methodology & Tools / Change Adoption & Tracking: Expertise in agile methodologies and tools to manage and deliver social sustainability projects efficiently. Ability to inspire change adoption and track progress to ensure continuous improvement.
* Collaboration & Managing Key Relationships: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners. Proven ability to manage key relationships and foster a culture of shared learning and mutual support.
* Planning, Tracking, Reporting & Governance: Excellent planning and organizational skills to supervise multiple projects and initiatives. Experience in tracking, reporting, and governance to ensure transparency and accountability in project delivery.
