Clinical Scientist - Radiotherapy Physics

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Band 7 Clinical Scientist to join our team in Radiotherapy Physics at Derby where we are about to enter a phase of equipment replacement.
You will be expected to undertake a range of duties to include advanced and routine radiotherapy treatment planning for external beam and brachytherapy treatments, along with QA on all equipment including Varian Truebeam linac, Philips CT scanner, Xstrahl superficial unit and Varian Bravos brachytherapy afterloader.
Whilst HCPC registration is required for the position, applications are also welcome from candidates soon to complete the NHS Scientist Training Programme or a suitable equivalence route, for appointment at a lower grade pending registration.
Main duties of the job
* To assist in the provision of scientific support and advice to the external beam treatment planning service.
* To produce and check external beam treatment plans both routine and complex, and to provide scientific advice to radiographers and clinicians.
* To carry out effective radiation dosimetry for all aspects of radiotherapy, i.e. treatment planning, machine dosimetry and brachytherapy.
* To carry out regular quality assurance measurements for all equipment in Radiotherapy including Varian Truebeam Linacs, Varian Bravos HDR Brachytherapy equipment, Xstrahl superficial unit, Philips Big Bore CT scanner and Eclipse Treatment Planning System and to provide highly specialised advice regarding the adjustment of parameters to improve dose output of the units.
* To participate in the Duty Physicist rotas.
* To assist with the training of Radiotherapy trainee Clinical Scientists, Planning Radiographers, Registrars and other students as required.
* To assure compliance with current legislation on Radiation Safety including IRR 17 and IRMER 24.

Person Specification
Education, Training & Qualification
* First Degree in a Physical Science or Equivalent.
* Experience in RT Physics.
* HCPC Registration.
* Research.
* Significant experience in the field, to include Halcyon.
Knowledge and Experience
* Significant post graduate experience or equivalent in RT Physics.
* Knowledge of IRMER and IRR.
* Familiar with Varian equipment.
* Experience in training staff.
Skills & Ability
* Organisation of staffing and prioritisation of work.
* Solving technical problems.
* Ability to operate highly complex equipment with a high degree of accuracy.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
