* First Aid & CPR certification.

* NFHS Concussion in Sport Certification
* NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certification
* NFHS COVID-19 Certification
* NFHS Protecting Students from Abuse
* NFHS Suicide Prevention and Mental Health
* Other certification and trainings may be deemed necessary by the Department, Board or Maine Principals Association
Job Description:
* To instruct student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.
* The Varsity Head Coach will ensure and provide the safest possible competitive & educational environment for all student-athletes involved and will, in conjunction with the Athletic Director and Department of Athletics, manage a staff of assistants, First Team & JV level coaches.
* Additionally, the head coach will serve as a mentor and role model, instilling a strong work ethic, leadership skills, and a passion for the sport, all while upholding the values and standards of the school and athletic department.
Duties:
1. Program Leadership and Vision:
o Develop and implement a strategic vision for the Girls Soccer program that emphasizes character development, competitive performance, sportsmanship, and personal growth for student-athletes.
o Mentor and guide assistant coaches and stakeholders to ensure alignment with the program’s goals, values, and expectations.
o Promote an inclusive, respectful team culture that fosters high standards, teamwork, accountability, and pride in an education-based athletic program.
2. Collaboration with Boosters:
o Partner with the booster organization to develop and execute budgets and fundraising initiatives.
o Serve as the primary liaison for the booster group, ensuring effective and transparent communication.
o Attend and assist in scheduling all booster meetings.
o Ensure booster activities comply with the Booster Handbook.
3. Compliance with Policies and Procedures:
o Adhere to all guidelines outlined in the MPA and Scarborough High School Athletic Department's Coaches Handbook.
o Follow and enforce all local, state and national policies ensuring compliance by players and staff.
o Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism.
4. Player Development and Safety:
o Create structured practice plans focusing on skill development, game strategy, and physical conditioning.
o Provide individual feedback to players to support their athletic, academic, and personal growth.
o Ensure all players are appropriately and safely equipped at all times.
o Enforce all safety measures to maintain a safe playing environment.
o Communicate regularly regarding all student-athlete injuries to the Athletic Trainer and/or Athletic Office.
5. Equipment Management:
o Oversee equipment inventory and maintenance, including managing all uniforms.
o Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and is in good working condition.
6. Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:
o Maintain clear and professional communication with students, parents, and staff.
o Distribute team rosters, contest schedules, and location descriptions to players and parents.
o Act as an ambassador for the Girls Soccer program, fostering positive relationships within the school and community.
7. Travel and Scheduling Coordination:
o Coordinate travel arrangements and communicate schedules with the Athletic Department.
o Communicate regular season and playoff rosters to the Athletic Department.
8. Student-Athlete Oversight:
o Monitor athlete attendance, behavior, and academic status as assigned by the Athletic Department.
o Implement and uphold the school’s athletic code of conduct and policies.
9. Recognition and Awards:
o Collaborate with the Athletic Department to determine and announce team awards.
o Organize and host the end-of-season awards banquet.
10. Professional Development and Meetings:
o Attend all league coaches' meetings and Athletic Department meetings as directed by the Athletic Department.
o Stay informed of best practices in coaching and safety by participating in professional development opportunities.
o Maintain required certifications and state-specific coaching credentials.
11. Community Outreach and Program Growth:
o Organize community initiatives, such as volunteer opportunities, to enhance program visibility and engagement.
o Build relationships with stakeholders to support program growth and sustainability.
12. Data and File Management:
o Maintain accurate records of player participation, eligibility, and performance.
o Utilize data and analytics to inform player development and game strategies.
o Monitor the playing environment to ensure safety and enforce risk management protocols.
13. Additional Responsibilities:
o Undertake other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or the Athletic Department.
