The Liaison Psychiatry service for working age adults is an established and well-respected team that provides a liaison psychiatry service to Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) at the QMC and City Hospital campuses on a 24-hour basis. The focus of our work includes urgent assessments in respect of self-harm and mental health emergencies, advice and support to wards regarding patients experiencing mental health problems, and work in areas such as Medically Unexplained Symptoms.
This post is open to both experienced Nurses who are already operating at a band 6 level or above and experienced band 5 Nurses who will be supported as part of the band 5-6 progression programme to progress into a band 6 position after demonstrating a list of competencies.
Main duties of the job
We undertake comprehensive assessments and work to agree therapeutic plans of care and risk management strategies. We also offer short-term follow-ups using brief interventions. Part of the role will include rotations within A&E to triage and assess patients presenting with a wide range of conditions and acting as a first point of contact. This will enable patients to be seen in a more timely manner and help with the overall patient experience.
Job responsibilities
1. Determine management plans and, where appropriate, deliver short-term psychological treatments for people referred following self-harm or psychiatric emergencies based on comprehensive psychosocial, risk, and needs assessments.
2. Determine whether individuals presenting with suicidal behaviors or thoughts are safe to leave the general hospital.
3. Manage cases appropriately to reduce risk.
4. Provide psychological treatment/support to individuals with physical illnesses or difficulties and associated mental distress or disorders to improve their functioning or quality of life.
5. Work collaboratively as a team focusing on patient and carer satisfaction, demonstrating strong clinical work.
6. Participate in a thorough and robust induction package, ensuring new starters receive adequate training and support.
7. Exhibit effective team working skills, communication, and the ability to work under pressure while delivering compassionate, person-centered care.
8. Conduct sound risk and mental health assessments.

Further Training
* Evidence of further training within mental health/psychiatry
* ENB 998 or equivalent
* Clinical supervision course
Qualifications
* Professional Mental Health nursing qualification
* Current NMC registration
Contractual Requirements
* Must be able to work across a 24-hour rota

Salary: £37,338 to £44,962 a year (pro rata for part-time)
