We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 5/6 Biomedical Scientist to join our remarkable and dynamic Histology Department on a part-time basis.
Pathology First provides essential and efficient uninterrupted laboratory services to two hospitals and community-based health services in South Essex. This is done through Essential Services Laboratories (ESLs) located in Southend University Hospital and Basildon University Hospital, and a central hub laboratory on the outskirts of Basildon.
As an important member of our team, you will be the fundamental principle of making a positive difference to our healthcare service and in return you will receive regular training and coaching to develop your skills and to support you in your working life. This is a great step up for a Biomedical Scientist into a Specialist role. The post holder will provide professional leadership to Basic Grade, Trainee BMS, Associate Practitioners, and Medical Laboratory Assistants in Cellular Pathology.
Main Responsibilities:
1. To undertake routine and specialised laboratory techniques in the processing of diagnostic and Histology and related samples providing patients with the highest level of diagnosis and treatment within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of senior grade BMS grade staff.
2. To provide professional leadership to Basic Grade, Trainee BMS, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants in Histopathology.
3. To provide specialist technical advice to clinicians as to the appropriateness of tests and timescales.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
1. HCPC State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist in Histopathology.
2. BSc (Hons) Biomedical degree or equivalent.
3. IBMS Specialist Portfolio (or equivalent) (Band 6).
4. Advanced working knowledge of Histopathology techniques and practices.
5. Knowledge of computer applications and LIMS including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Statistical Packages.
6. Competence in basic tissue dissection.
