The opportunity We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our Global Solutions Engineering Group at Caterpillar (N.I.) situated at Larne. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role within the Caterpillar Electric Power engineering team. The Global Solutions Engineering Group is responsible for the development of design to order customer specific products. This includes new product development, technical support for operations, processing of engineering changes, investigation & resolution of product quality issues. This role provides a great opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to develop their abilities within an experienced team working on projects for various export markets. For the right candidate, this role will include opportunities to travel for commissioning and product support. As the Electrical Design Engineer, you will primarily carry out the concept and design of electrical engineering products for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, best cost, durability, quality, and serviceability. The projects you'll work on involve complex designs, with associated problems for which no precedents may exist, to meet customer specifications. You will be expected to complete projects with limited supervision. What you will do: Design of controls and protection for generators, motors and related equipment. Take the technical lead on projects with respect to the electrical design. Interpret consultant drawings & specifications. Prepare submittal documentation for projects and meet with customers to discuss project requirements and review submittals. Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Sales Departments. Assist with product testing and/or evaluation when appropriate. Remain current in technology developments and industry standards. Assist with the development and updating of procedures, design guides and instruction manuals. What you have: Technical Excellence - Level Working Knowledge: Experience in electrical design projects such as electrical installations, including design through to build and validation. The ability to interpret engineering drawings, calculations, risk assessments and technical documentation. Provides effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues. Computer-Aided Design & Engineering - Level Extensive Experience: Experience in the use of AutoCad, ePlan, or similar drawing packages. Performs manipulations on design objects, such as changing projections and managing drawing layers. Product Design and Development - Level Working Knowledge: Manage multiple and diverse types of products which are specific to customer requirements. Develops proof-of-concept exercises to prove or disprove validity of proposed products. Advises on the appropriate solutions to complex product design and development problems. Managing Multiple Priorities - Level Working Knowledge: Clarifies and handles multiple concurrent and diverse activities.
