Locum Consultant Cardiologist in Coronary Intervention

Cardiology across the Humber is undergoing transformation - Hull University Teaching Hospitals as the tertiary centre working alongside North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust. This brings an exciting opportunity to join more than 20 cardiologists in one of the largest and most progressive cardiology units in the NHS. The post holder will primarily support the PCI service at NLAG. The successful applicant will be employed by Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and can expect to undertake some PCI at the tertiary centre. There are close links with Hull York Medical School (HYMS) and Hull is its own training deanery for cardiology - training 15 specialist registrars in cardiology.

Main duties of the job
Clinical work will be split across the two organisations. You will work across a compact geography; Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital are 6 miles apart, while Hull, Scunthorpe, and Grimsby are 30-40 minutes apart by car. All appointees will have job plans designed to minimise travel and maximise remote working.
The job plan will include: two days of cath lab activity a week; two clinics; admin and SPA time; in-patient/ward work as Consultant of the week: 8 weeks per year of ward cover with the possibility of also contributing to the PPCI out of hours rota.
This locum appointment is for 6 months.

Person Specification
Professional Registration
* Full Registration with the GMC
* GMC Specialist Registration
Qualifications and Training
* Valid ALS certificate
* Clinical training and experience in all aspects of cardiology equivalent to that required for UK CCT
* Trained in coronary intervention as a sub-specialty
* Significant experience of undertaking primary PCI independently
* Other higher degree (e.g., MD or PhD)
* Experience of performing complex coronary interventions as the primary operator
Clinical Experience
* Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Management and Administration Experience
* Experience of day-to-day organisation of cardiology services in a busy teaching hospital
* Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
* Familiar with the current structure of the Health service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
* Management course and/or qualification
Teaching, Audit and Research
* Thorough understanding of the principles of medical audit and quality improvement, with the ability to lead change within a service
* Experience of conducting clinical research
* Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching
* Relevant research experience with publication of relevant original research, review articles, or case reports
* Teaching skills course/qualification
Personal Attributes
* Ability to work flexibly in a changing health service
* Excellent manner with patients, being sensitive to their needs and fears
* Evidence of ability to communicate, organise, and lead
