Position Summary
This position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position develops curriculum, prepares teaching materials, and provides assessments of students’ progress. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment, and other inventories. The position is also responsible for upholding the College’s policies and procedures and for participating in meetings, events, and committees.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments, and independent or group projects.
* Develops curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audiovisual and web-related materials where appropriate.
* Prepares, administers, and marks papers, tests, exams, and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress. Provides detailed feedback on student performance.
* Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
* Provides individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
* Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software, and tools.
* Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work, or hands-on training.
* Adheres to VCC policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
* Participates in departmental and college meetings and events. Consults with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements.
* Performs other related duties as required.
Area Hiring Criteria
* A minimum of three years’ experience working in a health or allied health profession.
* BC Provincial Instructor’s Diploma or equivalent.
* A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or undergraduate degree in a Human Services field/discipline, counselling, or relevant area and successful completion of Socio-Cultural Competencies (SCC) Training facilitator program.
* A minimum of two years’ experience teaching Health Communication (e.g., Interpersonal Skills, Conflict Resolution, etc.) or teaching and/or coaching the Socio-Cultural Competencies (including role rehearsals).
* Experience leading and facilitating groups preferably with a health workplace focus.
* Recent experience in assessing written assignments for grammar, spelling, and critical thinking.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Familiarity with Online Learning Management Systems and file management for receiving, providing feedback, and archiving multiple emailed assignments.
* Ability to work as part of a department team.
Salary Range
Prorated based on FTE: $68.39 - $109.58/hour. Starting salary will be determined by education, experience, and placement criteria as outlined in the VCCFA Collective Agreement.
