Job summary
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and may be required to demonstrate procedures and supervise both Registered and non Registered staff.
Main duties of the job
1. To develop the skills to care for acutely unwell patients.
2. Liaise with senior Medical/Medical staff to provide a high quality service to patients and their families.
3. Offer advice / support to staff as required.
4. Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to maximise best use of resources.
5. Demonstrate commitment to the principles of Improving Working Lives.
6. Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Risk Management principles.
7. Under supervision perform comprehensive assessments of ill patients, plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to changing health needs and varying levels of complexity.
8. Ensure patient records are maintained and that documentation reflects care provided.
9. Involve patients / carers / relatives in the planning and delivery of services within the Unit area.
10. Promote and maintain effective communication with patients, relatives or carers.
11. Assist in urgent and emergency situations within a level of experience as directed by senior staff.
12. Develop skills to undertake specialist activities within practitioner's Scope of Professional Practice.
13. Perform comprehensive assessments of acutely ill patients, plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to changing health needs and varying levels of complexity.
14. Communicate sensitive / unpleasant / complex information to patients / relatives or others in a variety of settings.

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

15. Participate in building a high profile for your clinical area within the Trust.
16. Report act upon and investigate untoward incident / complaint / concerns, liaising with Matron/Ward Manager where appropriate.
17. Create a climate conducive to the practice of a high standard of care, ensuring the safety and well being of staff, patients and visitors to the department, especially in relation to health and safety.

26. Registered General Nurse, with current NMC Registration
