We are pleased to advertise a great opportunity for a HCA at the Village medical Centre in Wednesbury. We are a forward thinking, dynamic practice serving 10200 patients across 2 sites. We are looking to appoint a friendly and enthusiastic HCA to join our growing multidisciplinary team. The job is 20 hours per week over 5 days Monday- Friday.
We are looking for individuals who have excellent communication and organisational skills with a friendly and positive attitude.
Main duties of the job
To be a member of the nursing, medical and clerical team under the direction and supervision of a qualified Nurse. You will provide high quality care to the practice population under the guidance of a trained Nurse.
Direct clinical care:-
Carry out health assessments on newly registered patients and for routine screening under the supervision of and as directed by a registered nurse.
Relay advice on health promotion and illness prevention (such as basic travel vaccination advice) under the supervision of and as directed by a registered nurse.
Measure and appropriately record and report basic observations, e.g. testing urine, using a blood glucose meter, measuring blood pressure and pulse, temperature, height, weight, and ECG and taking a simple medical history.
Ensure that the clinical rooms are kept clean and in an orderly manner at all times and that relevant equipment is ready for use by the clinical team during clinic sessions.
Ensure that health promotion and other information materials are available and order new stock when required.
Give B12 injections and Flu injections under the direction of a Doctor and a Patient Specific Direction (PSD)
With reference to your Health Care Assistant duties, make appointments, enter all data onto the computer system after each contact and carry our relevant patient searches.
Attend training sessions when required and relevant updates, relating to your Health Care Assistant duties
About us
We have an established team of 5 GPs, 2 Salaried GPs, 2 ANPs, 2 Nurse Prescribers, 2 HCA's, 1 Pharmacist and working in collaboration with the PCN as part of the ARRS roles we have 2 Physician Associates, 2 Pharmacists, 1 Primary Care Mental health Nurse and 1 Social Prescriber. We are a training practice and at present have 2 GP registrars. We have a strong dynamic admin team. Our patient base of 10,200 patients is based across 2 sites in Wednesbury, both buildings are purposely built. The Village Medical Centre, our main practice site was recently extended in 2019.
We are committed to provide the best care and service to our patients who are the main focus and priority of the practice.
We use System-One, Docman and AccuRX
We have an excellent working relationships with our well organised and well functioning Primary Care Network (PCN)
Job responsibilities
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST
To carry out permitted duties with regard to protocols & guidelines in use at Village Medical Centre
DIRECT CLINICAL CARE;
1. Carry out health assessments on newly registered patients and for routine screening under the supervision of and as directed by a registered nurse.
2. Relay advice on health promotion and illness prevention (such as basic travel vaccination advice) under the supervision of and as directed by a registered nurse.
3. Measure and appropriately record and report basic observations, e.g. testing urine, using a blood glucose meter, measuring blood pressure and pulse, temperature, height, weight, and ECG and taking a simple medical history.
4. Ensure that the clinical rooms are kept clean and in an orderly manner at all times and that relevant equipment is ready for use by the clinical team during clinic sessions.
5. Order drugs and other supplies as directed by a registered nurse and or GP of the practice, ensuring that adequate levels of stock available.
6. If directed by a registered nurse and or a GP of the practice monitor contents of the drug cupboard.
7. Ensure that health promotion and other information materials are available and order new stock when required.
8. Assist in patient care delivered by and under the supervision of the GP, registered practice nurse when required.
9. Report all matters pertaining to patient care: changes in condition/circumstances and/or abnormal findings to a relevant member of clinical team.
10. Appropriately complete all relevant clinical documentation either manually or computer based for each patient contact
11. As directed by the registered practice nurse, carry out blood pressure readings, dressings, venipuncture, spirometry, collections of specimens, blood sugar readings, blood tests, assistance chaperone duties.
12. Give B12 injections and Flu injections under the direction of a Doctor and a Patient Specific Direction (PSD)

GENERAL AND CLERICAL DUTIES
With reference to your Health Care Assistant duties, make appointments, enter all data onto the computer system after each contact and carry our relevant patient searches.

1. Participate in audit sampling as required e.g. note sampling, data input and information gathering as directed by a registered practice nurse or senior clerical officer.
2. Where needed, to administer call and recall systems in relation to chronic disease management, immunization, breast and cervical cytology and medication review.
3. Attend relevant meetings as directed by the practice manager and doctors.
4. Attend training sessions when required and relevant updates, relating to your Health Care Assistant duties.
5. Have knowledge of and at all times act within the boundaries of health and safety legislation and data protection acts
CONFIDENTIALITY AND RECORD KEEPING
1. To act at all times with regard to confidentiality and sensitivity of issues to do with patients, their care and treatment.
2. The post holder acting under guidance of trained practice staff must record all contacts that occur with patients.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Comply with all practice policies, protocols and procedures as well as Health Safety and Fire regulations.
