The Vacancy
This role will sit within the Additive Manufacturing department, reporting directly to the department resource manager. This role delivers key responsibilities within the Additive Manufacturing department, including influencing metal AM technology strategy and capital investment decisions, technical leadership and governance of projects within the AM portfolio, technical business development and proposal of new project work, and coaching and mentoring of the wider technical team to support their personal development and development of skills within the MTC. The successful candidate may also be required to lead and manage a small team of engineers focused on AM project delivery.
Main Responsibilities:
* Owning the impact of existing products and developing Value Propositions to raise the Industrial Sectors’ awareness of the existing products and emerging value propositions.
* Contributing to technical and business strategies by developing specific technical and multi-theme roadmaps that define how technology-based value propositions can be developed to meet the manufacturing challenges identified by the Industrial Sectors.
* Identifying collaborative research and development funding opportunities and develop winning proposals to fund the development of the value propositions you lead.
* Ensuring that your colleagues receive the most appropriate technical guidance and governance in the delivery of their project work.
* Mentoring and coaching colleagues in an empathetic manner.
* Providing technical governance as required for all aspects of MTC’s proposal and project delivery processes.
* Taking on specific responsibilities as agreed by the CMT Group and AM Department’s management teams, including but not exclusive of:
o Management of specific hardware.
o Assessment of the engineers’ and department’s technical capabilities and development needs.
o Development of resourcing options and team competencies.
Person Specification
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
* Technical background and significant experience in ‘Metal laser powder bed fusion AM’ (academic or industrial).
* Knowledge and/or experience of AM process and/or materials qualification.
* Metallurgy as it relates to AM.
* Demonstrated previous leadership and management of small teams delivering technical projects.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience
* Knowledge and/or experience of any of the following:
o Other AM technologies across metals, polymer and/or ceramics.
o Surface finishing/post processing of AM components.
o In-process monitoring technologies applied to LPBF AM.
o Use of large data sets/machine learning for optimisation/prediction of AM process parameters.
o Reprocessing/reuse/recycling of material feedstocks in AM.
o Other complimentary manufacturing processes outside of AM.
o Chartership or Fellowship status with relevant engineering institute or organisation.
