About us
Seccl is the Octopus-owned embedded investment platform that’s helping more people to invest – and invest well. Our sector is being held back by old tech, dismal processes and misaligned interests. Together they create pointless complexity for financial planning and investment professionals and provide outdated, overpriced experiences for customers. We’re on a mission to fix it.
We help forward-thinking financial planners, wealth managers and investment platforms to reimagine their business and client experience – empowering them to build better, more sustainable and more valuable operations, and meet the digital demands of the future, not the baseline expectations of the past.
And we do it by reimagining their technology – with a low-cost, hyper-efficient and (genuinely) API-first technology infrastructure that handles millions of requests every day, and powers the portfolios of more than 160,000 investors.
A regulated custodian and ISA/SIPP provider, we combine the disruptive mindset and ambitious mission to shake things up, with the commitment and substance to not screw them up. We’re proud to be part of Octopus, the £12.8 billion group that's on a mission to breathe new life into broken industries, through companies like Octopus Energy, Octopus Investments and Octopus Money.
TLDR
We’re a business with insane product-market fit, impressive early traction and an offering that has the potential to transform an outdated industry for the better. We’ve doubled the size of our business over the last six months and expect to do that a few more times over the next few years.
The role
Our people, "Secclers", are at the heart of everything we do. Their growth and success are central to achieving our mission allowing anyone to invest – and invest well.
Reporting to our Senior people partner, you’ll work collaboratively with the People team and the business to help shape and deliver our people roadmap to achieve our business goals. You’ll be a trusted adviser to our teams providing advice, guidance, and support on all aspects of the Seccl people lifecycle and work collaboratively on projects that have a meaningful impact and support our people to do the best work of their lives.
This role offers lots of variety, where you’ll spin lots of plates working across talent management - working collaboratively to attract, retain and develop our people and people experience – aligning the people experience to our brand throughout the people lifecycle. The salary banding for this role is £30,000 to £35,000, depending on experience and can either be based in Edinburgh or Bath.
On a typical day you will…
1. Act as the first point of contact for people queries in your business areas, assisting and directing these as required.
2. Provide advice, guidance and support aligned with our people policies, guidelines and best practice.
3. Support the senior people partner to ensure all employee relations matters in your business areas are managed timely and in accordance with our people policy, including absence management, performance management and parental leave.
4. Draft all people correspondence (e.g., employment contracts, contractual change letters) for your business areas.
5. Deliver a first-class candidate and hiring manager experience by supporting our senior people partner with recruitment in your business areas, including sourcing, benchmarking, reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, collating and sharing feedback and even sometimes interviewing.
6. Ensure our people data and systems are always up to date, accurate and a true reflection of our workforce, including keeping our people-related intranet pages up to date.
7. Support a top-notch onboarding experience by working with our people leaders to develop and deliver individual induction plans for new joiners in your business areas.
8. Gathering people data and trend analysis (converting metrics to insights) to support, educate and work in partnership with people partners and people leaders on people issues and advise on options and solutions.
9. Work collaboratively with our communications team to deliver culture, people experience and internal communications projects.
10. Support the delivery of people-related projects (e.g., career/skills framework).
You’ll be successful if you …
1. Are looking to excel in your career in a human-centric, people-first culture.
2. Have worked as a People assistant/officer at a scaling technology company.
3. Thrive in a fast-paced environment and able to deliver purpose-built people plans aligned to the business.
4. Have a growth mindset, and a willingness to roll your sleeves up and give new things a try.
5. Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build relationships, including stakeholder management.
6. Have a strong understanding of leading recruitment to drive hiring plans.
7. Possess strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and best practice.
8. Have experience in managing employee relations cases to mitigate the risk.
9. Are comfortable working with data and systems. We use Microsoft Office, Slack, BambooHR and Culture Amp here.
This role isn’t for you if…
1. You rely on a lot of top-down direction. Here, you’ll have a lot of freedom and ownership of your role, and you’ll be expected to shape your own progression.
2. You’re not comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Our speed and scalability is what set us apart; you need to be able to act quickly and think on your feet.
3. You struggle to follow through on your ideas. We value people who do what they say they will. If you care about something, you have the freedom here to make it happen.
4. You don’t like change. You’ll get on great here if you relish the ambiguity of rapid growth and are willing to embrace uncertainty.
It would be nice if you had:
1. Fintech experience, in particular an understanding of the FCA regulatory rules as they relate to people matters including SMCR.
2. Experience and comfort in working in an agile team environment with delivery based on two-week sprints.
3. HR qualification (CIPD level 3 or equivalent).
4. Flexibility to travel and be based near one of our offices in Edinburgh or Bath.
Our culture
We are proud to cultivate a culture first, human environment and genuinely listen to our people about what matters to them most. As a result, we’re proud we’ve cultivated a transparent and inclusive environment that encourages diversity of thought, challenge and experimentation.
Our purpose is supported by a series of non-negotiable operating principles that define how we work to deliver value for each other and for our clients:
* Never settle – We think of ourselves as ‘embedded hero-makers’ for our customers. We put them first, and if we say we’ll do something, we’ll move heaven earth to do it. We think boldly and embrace change.
* Take ownership – We think rigorously and deeply about a problem, but then charge at it, acting with urgency and speed that sets us apart. But we never lose sight on quality or long-term scalability.
* Be generous and candid – We encourage our people – and our customers – to challenge us and never shy away from tough conversations. We have a flat and inclusive culture where everyone can be themselves – and speak up.
We have offices in central Bath and Edinburgh, and London. We’re working as a hybrid team supporting each of our people to choose how they work best. We’ve always been supportive of flexible working that focuses on delivery and impact, rather than hours worked.
What’s in it for you…
We offer a generous blend of benefits for the things that really matter to our people, including:
* 27 days holiday + bank holidays (some can be flexible) + day off on your birthday.
* 3 days (full time) per year for Dependant leave.
