Perth & Kinross Council’s Building Standards team is known for its high performing, customer focussed service. We have a culture of continuous improvement to achieve the Council’s priority of developing a resilient, stronger, and greener local economy.
This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to develop within a high achieving Building Standards service.
We are looking for a customer focussed person to assist in the delivery of the Council’s statutory Building Standards function. This primarily involves the inspection and assessment of on-going construction works against the warrant approval and building regulations. Other duties include dealing with defective/dangerous buildings and temporary raised structures (e.g. event stages), etc.
Skills & Experience Required
Candidates must possess either:
• A minimum of a HNC in a building construction / surveying related subject together with 3 years relevant post qualification experience in the construction industry; or
• A degree in a Building Surveying or equivalent related subject together with at least 2 years post qualification experience in the construction industry or at least 1 year in a Local Government Building Standards environment.
The ability to use IT systems along with accurate record keeping both on site and the office environment timeously is essential to the role.
This post is ideally suited for someone looking to develop a career in Building Standards.
The successful candidate must have knowledge of construction methods and should preferably have experience in the inspection and recording of on-going construction.
You will be able to carry out detailed inspections with the minimum of supervision following a period of assessment/training if required.
Knowledge of the building regulations is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
Enthusiasm to learn is essential.
You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross. Access to transport when required is desirable.
We are open to considering applicants who wish to work remotely, however regular and at times extensive travel within the Perth and Kinross area will be necessary to carry out visits and attend meetings as required.
