Burtons Manufacturing Co Ltd. is a veterinary equipment manufacturer based in Staplehurst, Kent. Established in 1981, Burtons has been supplying the veterinary industry with a full range of products for over 40 years.
Fundamental to the provision of safe anaesthesia is the support of well-designed ventilation and patient monitoring equipment. Burtons has a range of products designed specifically for veterinary use, with embedded or mainstream operating system software running mainly on Windows PCs or Linux platforms.
About the role:
Due to the growth of the company and range of products, Burtons requires an experienced programmer to expand the development team. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in Windows and Linux software development using predominantly C++, but also C#, .NET, and web-based programming languages. The role will involve working on user-interface software for the control of mechanical ventilators and the monitoring of patients under anaesthesia. Burtons aims to expand the current software into hand-held mobile devices.
This role reports directly to the Production Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work with existing programmers on developing new product code for Windows and Linux platforms. Current C++ projects include new animal ventilators, new Multi-Parameter patient monitors, and a new ventilator simulation system.
2. Be involved in the creation of new C++ software from scratch, matched to the requirements of new products.
3. Support existing code in legacy products (C++ and C#) by responding to customer reports and identified software defects.
4. Support the development team with university and internal research projects.
5. Work with the development team to expand the platform usage of existing software to include hand-held devices such as tablets and mobile phones.
6. Demonstrate a desire to take ownership of own work and maintain excellent attention to detail.
7. Work across departments to provide bespoke software solutions.
About you:
Primary:
1. Minimum 5 years' experience of developing applications using Windows Visual Studio.
2. Well-versed in predominantly C++ and C, with experience of C#, and .NET.
3. Strong experience of working with Windows and Linux operating systems.
4. Ability to adopt ownership of responsibility for a project, to oversee meeting of deadlines and project objectives.
5. Tertiary education with supporting qualifications.
6. Demonstration of previous industry work history.
7. Demonstration of extensive knowledge and previous experience may be considered in place of formal tertiary qualifications.
Secondary:
1. Good organisational and planning skills.
2. Clear and precise documentation and annotation for code development.
3. Ability to work alone and as part of a development team.
4. Ability to understand and focus on the core requirements of a task.
5. Ability to clearly explain ideas and concepts to less experienced members of the team or members of other departments.
