The Senior Estimator role
PSR are working with a leading infrastructure specialist who are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead the preparation and submission of competitive tenders for Infrastructure projects (Water).
Working as part of a dedicated bid team, you will utilise your construction expertise and commercial acumen to secure a profitable future workload for the business while managing risk, value engineering, and cost planning.
Key Responsibilities as a Senior Estimator
1. Appraise tender documents and prepare material and sub-contract enquiries, including the selection of prospective subcontractors.
2. Attend strategy and opportunity meetings, and visit sites to assess specific risks.
3. Contribute to design development and participate in design team meetings as required.
4. Prepare tender Bills of Quantities, analytic cost estimates (including preliminaries), budgets, and cost plans.
5. Adjudicate and compare subcontractor quotations, initiating technical queries to ensure accurate costing.
6. Manage risk throughout the tender period and maintain a detailed tender Risk Register.
7. Value engineer during the design phase of design and build projects.
8. Present the tender to senior management, highlighting any major commercial issues or elevated risks.
9. Complete all tender documentation and ensure a smooth handover to the operational team.
10. Support Business Continuity Planning and ensure the team is informed of relevant procedures.
Skills as a Senior Estimator
Essential
1. A relevant Construction-related degree or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 10 years experience in a similar role.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
4. Extensive experience in analytic estimating for projects up to £25m.
5. In-depth knowledge of all forms of contract including traditional, partnering, design & build, two-stage tenders, and frameworks.
6. Experience with estimating software and a strong technical understanding of construction processes and industry standards.
7. Familiarity with BIM, cost planning, and the ability to build estimates from first principles.
8. Strong numerical, technical, and commercial abilities, with excellent communication, presentation, planning, and leadership skills.

1. Background in infrastructure, water.
