Your Opportunity
One Permanent Full Time Position.
Capital Power is currently seeking an exceptional individual with a strong dedication to achieving goals to join our East Windsor Cogeneration Centre team as a Plant Technician. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a world-class organization that is committed to providing reliable and sustainable power solutions.
You will contribute to our team by:
* Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment in the power plant, including but not limited to: turbines, generators, compressors, motors, pumps, fire protections, electrical distribution, instrumentation and control systems, and all other balance of plant auxiliary equipment.
* Maintaining high professional, personal and equipment safety and environmental consciousness and compliance standards and practices.
* Performing continuous improvements on the appearance of the plant facility, including: groundskeeping, landscaping, snow removal, painting projects and weed control as needed.
* Performing equipment rounds, reading, recording and analyzing instrumentation data to assess operating performance.
* Assisting with developing, reviewing and updating operating procedures and maintenance plans.
* Planning, scheduling and completing maintenance tasks and using the computerized maintenance management system.
* Coordinating the purchase of parts and material with the appropriate personnel and suppliers.
* Making arrangements for contractor services when required and managing contractors on-site.
* Complying with health, safety and environmental regulations and company policies, standards and procedures.
* Performing hazard identification, assessment and control for maintenance work performed by self, peers, and contractors on site.
* Developing, issuing and completing work permits and associated documents for maintenance work performed by self, peers, and contractors on site.
* Assisting with finding contributing factors, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions for incidents related to people, environment, assets or production loss.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
* Completed High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
* Any one of the following Journeyman trade tickets/certifications: Instrumentation and Control Technologist / Technician (Highly Desirable), Industrial Electrician (Highly Desirable), Industrial Mechanic Millwright, 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certification and/or Fuel Safety Technician (G1).
Skills and Experience:
* 5+ years of experience in operations and maintenance of combined, cogen or simple cycle power plant.
* Demonstrates extensive knowledge of all parts of the power plant operations.
* Able to make competent decisions in case an emergency should occur.
* Must be able to assume accountability, prioritize, and respond to several tasks under possible hazardous and stressful conditions.
* Capable of writing technical procedures, work requests and written records.
* Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
* Adequate knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office, Teams and computerized maintenance management systems.
* Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude and dexterity in the use of the plant equipment.
* Must have the ability to read at the level of understanding written safety procedures, P&IDs, blueprints, technical instruction manuals, and other written records.
* Demonstrates the ability to interpret mechanical drawings, logic drawings, and piping and instrument drawings.
* Strong math and logic skills regarding trouble shooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment. Ability to detect a solution in a timely manner.
* Demonstrates strong aptitude and dexterity in the use of tools and equipment.
* Operate powered mobile equipment such as aerial lifts, forklifts, etc.
* Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions:
* Plant site based, frequent field work.
* Heavy industrial facility designated as a safety sensitive location.
* Work with hazardous materials occasionally.
* Physical mobility and ability to use PPE required.
* Walking, reaching, climbing and lifting (up to 50 pounds).
* Working rotating work shifts and responding quickly to plant conditions or requirements which may involve extended and/or abnormal work hours including call-ins.
Additional Details:
Union: PWU
Wage Range: $51.58 - $62.00 per hour
Hours of Work: 12 hour rotating shift schedule
This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug & alcohol test is required, subject to applicable law.
Clearance of a pre-employment medical will also be required.
