Strain Development Scientist Salary: £37,000 - £45,000 per year Location: White City, London We’re a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers and software developers from diverse backgrounds brought together by a passion for creating advanced materials for our customers. We are now looking for a self-driven Scientist (Strain Development) (full time) to join our growing team. The Scientist’s duties could include: Work on strain optimisation in different species, including genome engineering, to improve protein titers Optimise media for high cell density growth and protein production. Develop efficient fermentation protocols in shake flasks and bioreactors. Develop efficient downstream processing methods for protein purification. Work closely with our interdisciplinary team of materials scientists, engineers and synthetic biologists Assist with general lab management tasks (e.g. dishwashing, media preparation) Contribute to joint projects with business partners where necessary Qualifications/Experience: Master’s Degree in a field such as Synthetic Biology, Biochemistry or equivalent professional experience Experience in working in a molecular biology lab Experience in strain engineering (e.g. heterologous protein expression, metabolic engineering or other synthetic biology applications) Experience in modern DNA assembly methods (e.g. Golden Gate, Gibson) Experience in routine molecular biology processes (PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA extraction etc). Experience in microbiology (culturing microbial species, transformation etc) A tinkerer mentality - you like to independently design and troubleshoot things on your own Good documentation practice (physical lab-books and/or ELNs) Good planning and organization skills Excellent communication skills Good Microsoft Office skills (Word, Powerpoint, Excel etc) Nice to have: experience with microorganisms other than E.coli Nice to have: experience of heterologous protein expression/purification methods Nice to have: experience of liquid handling automation methods Nice to have: experience of scaling bioprocesses Nice to have: experience with a programming language (eg Python, Matlab, R etc) Nice to have: experience working in a start-up environment We offer: Competitive salary Full time position Flexible working hours Generous pension contribution and benefits Regular team events Exciting and dynamic start-up environment A commitment to equality and valuing diversity No agents please
