We are looking for an experienced, committed, knowledgeable and highly motivated physiotherapist to undertake the full-time role of First Team Physiotherapist within the Medical Department. The successful candidate will have experience working successfully within the performance sport environment and a clear understanding of athletic development.
Reporting in the first instance to the Head of Medical Services you will be responsible for the provision of physiotherapy services to the 1st Team squad and support the delivery of physiotherapy services to the development squad.
Working in conjunction with colleagues across the Physical Performance and Nutrition Department you will work to ensure that all 1st Team & Development squad players are appropriately supported to optimise their performance in training and competition.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Lead the design, planning and delivery of a comprehensive physiotherapy service across all aspects of the football club, consistent with the football club philosophy and focussed on maximising the potential of all players.
2. Working within a multidisciplinary team assist in the design and delivery of a comprehensive player physical development programme reflective of the individual age and stage of player development.
3. Ensure that all practice within the physiotherapy department is delivered to the highest professional standard, consistent with the application of current scientific principles/research and is set at all times within the context of the game.
4. Undertake ongoing monitoring and review of all aspects of the physiotherapy service provision, adapting and updating practice as required.
5. Maintain detailed and comprehensive player profiles and medical notes.
6. Creation of a high performance environment, operating to the highest professional standards at all times - with no compromise.
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Management of Injuries
1. Lead the provision of physiotherapy services across the 1st Team squad for long-term injured players.
2. Assist in the provision of physiotherapy services to the development squad.
3. Standardise the management of injuries by leading in the development and structure of injury rehabilitation and return to play guidelines.
4. Ensure the management of injuries effectively meet its commitments to the players, coaches and senior management through clinical audit and accurate documentation.
Injury Prevention
1. Liaise effectively with the 1st Team and Development coaching staff daily to keep them informed of players’ availability for development matches and training.
2. Work as part of the Medical and Performance support services interdisciplinary team to deliver effective injury prevention strategies across all age groups.
3. Lead the musculoskeletal profiling for all 1st Team players and integrate the results into the overall player development plan.
4. Lead in the musculoskeletal profiling for all 1st team and academy players and integrate the results into the overall player development plan.
5. Ensure the delivery of preventative rehabilitation effectively meets its commitments to players, coaches and senior management through clinical audit and accurate documentation.
Pre-Signing Medicals/Medical Consultations
1. Carry out and coordinate the pre-signing profiling & medical assessments for all 1st Team & Development players under the supervision of the Head of Medical Services.
2. To produce the pre-signing board reports for 1st Team players in the absence of the Head of Medical Services.
3. To accompany 1st Team players on external medical consultations at short notice either in this country or abroad. Ensuring best practice is followed and ensuring the player receives optimal care and advice at all times.
Medical Provision at Matches/Training Sessions/Training Camps
1. To provide emergency and physiotherapy match day cover for all 1st Team games and Development games when required.
2. To plan, organise and implement the emergency and physiotherapy service provision for all 1st Team training sessions and training camps and supervise the same for the Development squad.
3. To ensure all medical equipment and procedures are regularly reviewed and maintained at the Hibernian Training Centre, Easter Road Football Stadium and any other 1st team, development or Academy training venues under the guidance of the Head of Medical Services.
4. To ensure that an emergency action plan is in place prior to any Home & Away fixture for 1st Team fixtures.
5. To support the emergency and physiotherapy service provision at Development & Academy fixtures as required.
Recovery (including Nutrition)
1. Working with the Medical and Performance support services interdisciplinary team, plan, organise and deliver appropriate and clinically reasoned recovery strategies post training and matches.
Administrative Responsibilities
1. Take an active role in all Medical and Performance support services meetings and any other planned meetings.
2. Assist in the production of all department procedure documents under the guidance of the Head of Medical Services.
3. Carry out a comprehensive injury audit for the Development squad and oversee the Academy injury audit.
4. Any other reasonable administration tasks associated with the running of the department.
Continuous Professional Development
1. Lead in the in-service training sessions in conjunction with the Head of Medical Services.
2. Assist in the creation of a CPD department pathway to ensure the ongoing improvement in the delivery of the physiotherapy service.
3. Maintain a CPD portfolio, which is in line with the ACPSEM guidelines.
4. Strive to advance working practices both within the department and in the wider sports physiotherapy setting by looking to publish clinical research.
5. Lead the education and supervision provision for any physiotherapy student placements.
Hibernian Football Club – Academy
1. Working in conjunction of Academy Medical and Performance support services staff on the delivery of an integrated physical preparation and development programme.
2. Working in a support and collaboration role with the Academy coaches & support staff, ensure the application of scientific principles and sound clinical reasoning adopting a holistic approach to educate academy players in all aspects of performance development.
3. Monitor and evaluate all aspects of the Hibernian FC programme ensuring high quality and professional delivery at all times.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist when necessary the Education and Welfare Officer in the delivery of lifestyle educational sessions for players.
2. Ensure that the provision of Medical and Performance support services at the club is reported positively in the local and national press and is seen as a benchmark for good practice within the professional game in Scotland.
3. Help create clear lines of communication within the Medical and Performance support services department.
4. To foster strong community links with the wider local football community to ensure that Hibernian FC is justifiably accepted and acknowledged as the leading senior club in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
5. Ensure that Hibernian FC provides support and assistance when required or requested to support the National Team and Association deliver football success to the Scottish nation.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
1. Ability to work irregular and unsociable hours as required.
2. To have an understanding that work may be subject to change with less than 24 hours’ notice on occasions. Work will regularly be outside normal working hours, in the evening and on weekends and bank holidays.
3. Travel with overnight stays should be expected.
4. Ability to travel abroad with teams if required.
5. An understanding of and commitment of fair play and all national and international anti-doping policies as enforced by the Scottish Football Association and WADA.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications (Essential):
1. BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy.
2. ATMMiF Level 5 or First Aid Qualification Equivalent.
3. CSP/HCPC Registered.
Qualifications (Desirable):
1. MSc in Manual Therapy, Sport Physiotherapy, Sports & Exercise Medicine or equivalent.
2. AACP Registration.
3. Formal Pilates Training.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):
1. At least 3 years experience of working in a similar role within a professional football club multidisciplinary team at 1st team level.
2. Experience of a role that required athlete management with a detailed understanding of injury prevention and rehabilitation strategies.
3. Experience of strategic planning with evidence of vision and imagination.
4. Highly skilled in communicating complex data in terms that are easily understood by a wide range of audiences.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to adapt to the environment to motivated behavioural change and augment performance.
6. Evidence of recent CPD and a comprehensive CPD portfolio.
Technology (Essential):
1. Having a range of IT skills to a high level of competency.
2. Knowledge of football specific software is desirable.
