Reference: eef4dd12 Job Title: Part-Time Personal Assistant (PA) Location: Cambridge Hours: 10-14 hours per month Type: Part-time Pay: £16 per hour plus £0.23 per mile About the Role: We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and caring Personal Assistant (PA) to provide support to our elderly mother who is living with dementia. This position does require some flexibility in order to ccommodate appointments. The PA will be responsible for helping with tasks around the home, insuring safety, transport to and from appointments and offering companionship during the designated hours. Our Mother will be transitioning from her home to sheltered living accommodation, some of your duties will include maintaining her emotional wellbeing and offering support where needed. An interest in nature/outdoors would be a positive attribute. Responsibilities: - IT Support: Help using the computer, including writing emails. - Companionship: Provide emotional support, conversation, and companionship. - Being willing to admire her work and let her chat about it whilst helping her maintain a realistic mindset about what she can actually do and what is appropriate. - Light Housekeeping: Assist with light cleaning, tidying around the home and possibly sorting through paperwork as needed. - Monitoring Safety: Ensure a safe living environment by checking that the home is free of hazards, offering reassurance during times of confusion or anxiety and communicating any possible safeguarding concerns to the family. - Accompanying to Appointments: If necessary, assist with attending medical appointments or other outings, providing transportation and support as needed. - Record Keeping: Keep track of any notable changes in health or behaviour and communicate this with the family. Qualifications and Skills: - Up to date DBS is essential. - Access to your own vehicle and a clean driving licence is required. - Previous experience in caregiving, particularly for individuals with dementia. - Compassionate, patient, and understanding approach, with the ability to provide sensitive care. - Ability to work independently, as well as part of a family team. - Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. - Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy. - Knowledge of dementia care and its challenges. - Awareness of safeguarding risks - First aid or CPR certification is a plus but not required. - Must be reliable, punctual, and dependable. Working Hours: - 2-3 hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling to fit both the caregiver’s and family’s needs. - Availability to work occasional evenings or weekends if needed. - Potential increase for more hours as our mother’s dementia progresses.
