JMW’s Cycling Accidents team are looking for a Paralegal to join the growing team and work with other fee earners managing a caseload of Portal cycling accident files, whilst assisting the other members of the team with non-Portal files.
The successful candidate will be running their own case load of c. 50-75 files, with supervision from senior fee earners, offering you a high level of autonomy and the ability to develop your legal skills and career.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a Legal 500 Tier 1 Personal Injury team and work alongside recognised lawyers who are passionate and dedicated in their work to secure compensation for cyclists who have suffered, often complex, injuries as a result of accidents.
The ideal candidate will:
* Have a minimum of 12 months’ experience running Claimant MOJ Portal personal injury files, preferably with knowledge of cycling accident claims (RTA and Public Liability accidents)
* Have good understanding of the CPR and Portal rules.
* Conduct investigations to determine the prospect of success of the files.
* Have experience of handling RTA and PL Portal files during Stage 1 and Stage 2.
* Have experience of issuing RTA and PL Portal files at Stage 3 including Portal infant approval hearings.
* Be able to identify when files should be removed from the MOJ Portal process.
* Understand and be able to prepare files to be transferred to off Portal fee earners;
* Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Be able to manage their time and workloads effectively
* Be empathetic and have a focus on delivering outstanding client service
* Experience of Proclaim Case Management System would be advantageous but is not essential as training will be provided
Role & Responsibilities
* Preparing for and submitting CNFs/letters of claim
* Obtaining documents and evidence in support of general and special damages
* Drafting schedules of special damages
* Drafting witness statements
* Preparing instructions to medical experts and counsel
* Obtaining, reviewing and collating medical records
* Reviewing medical reports
* Researching case law on liability and quantum
* Preparing advice on liability, causation and quantum
* Drafting letters/emails/advices to clients
* Liaising with clients and updating on case progress
* Preparing court bundles
* Dealing with billing and disbursement payments
